Guest bruteshooter
I'm one of those that tosses out pennies. Don't carry them around and usually end up throwing them into the penny cup at the store. Must admit, I've even tossed some out after finding them behind the truck seats. Anyway, my wife and I are buying some land and she insists that if I hadn't done the "penny thing" for my whole life I'd have more than half of what we are spending on land. How much do you honestly think you've thrown away during your lifetime? Hundreds, Thousands?
Strut10
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? You're talking "thrown away" as in "in the garbage"??? i have a big plastic jar that pretzels came in. I toss all mine in it. Probably holds 50-60 lbs. when full. Then I'll take them to the bank & cash them in. But throw them away??? Nope. Guest bruteshooter
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? I do the same with my change, but not those pennies. I toss them out like a bad habit.

Exturkinator
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? spare coins, including pennies, go into the kids' piggy banks - they love it... wouldn't even consider "throwing them out"...

AJ
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? Throw them out? Maybe a few here or there if they get nasty. But as a rule, nope. I do like the others and toss them into a jar and redeem them at the bank. In 2005, I cashed in over $3000 in change. This was from big jugs of assorted change and a few 5 gallon water jugs of pennies. Actually, with the rising cost of metals, it now costs the mint about 1.5 cents to make a penney. The US Mint made it illegal to melt pennies and nickels as the coins are worth more as scrap than face value.
OJR
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? I save all my change! I will always give the clerk a bill when I purchase something and throw the change in a cup when I get home! You will be amazed as to how fast it adds up! Once a year I cash it in and will have several hundred dollars worth!

Adjam5
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? My mom and dad just got a little over $800 for a 5 gallon water jug filled with pennies, and thats with pulling out the "wheat stalk" pennies and keeping those. Hey...a Million $ starts at 1 cent. Shaun_300
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? I usually throw my change in my ashtray in the truck. Buy coffee in the evenings with it. Once it's sifted down to nickels and pennies and overflowing I bring it in the house and throw it in a container.
Tominator
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? Thrown away? Less than a dollar I'd bet. There have been times where I won't pick up a penn, and admit to vacuuming a few out of the vehicles, but for the most part, my wife and I put all of our change in a big 10 gallon water jar and dip into it when the kids need lunch money or have a fund raiser at school. Sometimes we'll take it down to the change maker and use the money for Christmas or something. All that coin adds up. We easily have over $100 every year in loose change. Guest Andrea
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? We have several jars of loose change. Pennies too. When we start the tedious task of counting the pennies I keep an eye out for the collector's pennies. The really really old ones. The one with the double-dye and the ones my Dad is always saying to look for. The ones made from real copper.
lil hunter
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? I've got around $100 in change right now. I save all my change that i get from buying lunch everyday at school. I never really get pennies from school though. I started saving my change a few years ago. i've saved probably $150-200 mainly just from change from lunch. I can easily get a dollar or two a week from that, depending on what i buy. Jeramie
Re: Saving pennies? Or not? I would never throw out a penny. For one its legal tender so you're literally throwing money away. Like many others I save loose change. In fact I just dumped a handful of change into a cool whip bowl this morning. It adds up. I have around $200 in change right now.
