Griz
For the past month I have watching these 8 bucks feeding in this one area. I haven't been there until yesterday, thinking that they should shed horns there. I went out there and nothing. Not one horn. I know there sheding because I have seen some other bucks that are hornless. Anyway I have walked this whole area and plus some...Nothing... Any advise on what to do... KirkV
Re: I\'m no good at this... Hang in there griz, bedding area's and feed areas are the hot spots, but you never know where for sure. I went 2 years without finding one!
Turkeygirl
Re: I\'m no good at this... No the feeling Griz! Last week when it was really warm and snow melting, went out a couple days in a row...walked on some really heavy trails through great bedding areas and found nothing! I don't know if it's because there was still snow on the ground and the sheds and really under it, or what. I find one piece of a main beam all chewed but no "real" sheds... Tominator
Re: I\'m no good at this... Try to find bedding sites, travel corridors, and feeding areas that they are frequenting now, not the ones they used during the season. Once you find one, remember the spot because they seem to be in the same spots every year. Check along fences too. Probably 1/3 of all the sheds I've ever found have been within 5 yards of a fence. Canuck2
Re: I\'m no good at this... It's amazing how well shed antlers blend in with their surroundings, just like the bucks they came from. I find I have to concentrate on looking for 'pieces' of antler sticking up or lying contrary to the general lay of the land. It's just like trying to spot deer in cover by looking for leg parts or an ear. Lots of times I have been past the same spot previously before spotting an antler that was there the whole time. Keep beating the bush; you'll find 'em.
Griz
Re: I\'m no good at this... Well folks I just got back from a 3 mile walk trough the woods. I did what yall said. I found some very good well used trails running from bedding to feeding areas and still nothing. What I did see was alot of fresh rubs from big to small. While I was out walking I also notice that I didn't even see any scrapes, . I thought that was odd.But I did see alot of sign. I'm starting to think that these bucks are just now getting started on sheding. Maybe I'm rushing them to much.
hoyt19
Re: I\'m no good at this... It took me a long time. In the past the only times I found a shed was tripping over one when turkey hunting, or maybe finding one while pheasant hunting. This year I finally started seeing the fruits of my labor. I have 6 in 3 trips out. It takes time and dont get upset with it
