WaCoyote
As some of you may remember, my hunting buddy (Wild_Bill), blasted himself im the lower left leg with his new Springfield XD .45 last monday. The Hydroshock Bullet hit the larger of the two leg bones dead center and punched a hole right through. In the following pics you can see the path of the bullet represented by an arrow. And a gouge in the bone if you look very close. It is represented by the dotted line. Also note the bullet fragmentation. The hydroshock did extactly what it was supposed to do. OUCH!! Doc said if he had to hit bone he hit it in the best possible place. If he were left or right of center it would have shattered the bone and he'd be in real trouble. Turkeygirl
Re: Bullet Wound X-Rays Wow....he is lucky...An inch or two up and it would have been right in the knee and that would have been a real mess with all the tendons and such. Thanks for sharing. Hope he heals up quickly!

Newarcher
Re: Bullet Wound X-Rays Maybe the wrong question at the wrong time, but how badly did that hurt? I gotta know just straight from the horse's mouth how badly that hurt. My wife did a radiology internship at Grady Hospital in Atlanta (for those absent Atlanta, that's a very good public hospital and outstanding trauma center). She saw a few cases of gang members who wouldn't kill the rivals, they would put a shotgun to the knee caps of the opposing gang member and pull the trigger. She said it was rough stuff and apparently pretty painful. Gang membership....it doesn't have its privliges. New
WaCoyote
Re: Bullet Wound X-Rays [ QUOTE ] anybody have a link to the story? was thinkin about getting one of those handguns. now im wondering. [/ QUOTE ] If your talking about a news story there isn't one. I wouldn't hesitate to buy one. I shot it with him and it's a very accurate pistol. It wasn't the guns fault, he was just being careless. He was putting the gun away and as he was closing the slide and for some reason the gun was pointing and his leg and he had his finger on the trigger. As the slide closed the gun discharged. He had to depress BOTH safeties to do this. The grip safety and the trigger (glock safety) were obviously depressed at the same time. He's still unsure what in the heck he was thinking but he's got 6-8 weeks on the couch to think about it. Anyways it wasn't a failure of the gun itself. It was a mental "vapor lock". That XD is a really nice shooting rig, if you want one please don't let this story scare you off. However, be very carefull if your not familiar with autos. IMO thats what happened here. Although he's an experienced shooter he's new to auto loaders. [ QUOTE ] Maybe the wrong question at the wrong time, but how badly did that hurt? I gotta know just straight from the horse's mouth how badly that hurt. [/ QUOTE ] I can only imagine how bad it hurt. He said it was unreal, plus he's allergic to opiats so he couldn't take pain killers without getting sick. He probably won't come here himself to give you the straight scoop. Bill very rarely comes to the site plus he can't get downstirs to use the PC. LOL!! His wife said he squealed like a stuck pig when he did it. I believe her. He said it was the worse pain he's ever felt.
Newarcher
Re: Bullet Wound X-Rays Not busting on your friend because careless accidents do happen but perhaps....and I could be wrong here....perhaps he might think about carrying and storing it UNLOADED. Glad your buddy is okay, is he going to limp the rest of his life or did they just bondo and duct tape the hole up? New
WaCoyote
Re: Bullet Wound X-Rays [ QUOTE ] perhaps he might think about carrying and storing it UNLOADED. [/ QUOTE ] I agree but he uses it for his home defense gun. I keep a loaded mag out of the pistol but in reach. He'll probably do the same.
