Randy
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I'm not really sure there is anything funny about killing. Killing is a part of survival, and for most of us here, it is our Heritage. Everybody must do there best to make a quick and humane kill. I personally don't see anything weird or funny about killing. Jodyslilbro
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill Sorry about the thread I posted. I was just thinking like flipping over as it fell or somewhere along that line. I know what you mean Randy. Sorry about that and to anyone else who feels that way. Guest Andrea
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I think I know what you're asking for. I ALMOST killed a stump one time. Randy
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill Don't be sorry bud, just understand that to be able to hunt an animal you need to love that animal, otherwise it is "just killing". To be able to "hunt" you need to "respect" the animal you are hunting. That means to take an animal as quickly, and humanely as possible. Tominator
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I understand what both you and Randy are saying, and I respect the animals I hunt, but I'll be honest, I've seen more than a few doves cartwheel out of the sky pretty funny. Exturkinator
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill Probably the funniest thing yet for me was one I didn't kill - happened last year - I called a gobbler across a field right into my position, before I got set (dumb dumb dumb) up the gobbler rushed around the brush line I was sitting behind, it stopped and gave me the funniest look (sorta like my wife gives me sometimes...), puffed or hissed at me, and bolted off laughing at me.... popgun
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill Not exactly funny, but weird or odd, yes. My son-in-law shot an 8 pt. about three years ago while hunting with his brothers. The deer jumped straight up, and it's antlers became entangled in some low overhanging branches. It was stone dead when his brothers got to him, and thought he had already hung the buck up for field dressing. Now, if it was just my son-in-law who told me this, I probably would have had my doubts, but both of his brothers described the account the same way. Odd,,,yes ....popgun
DU_man_84
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill id have to say this year, wasnt my kill but someone elses, in the dove field a guy up about 75 yds from me shot a dove and it sailed my way and i was watching it, well my buddy sitting 25 yds to my left was looking the other way for doves, and this bird sailed right past me and my buddy turned around perfect timing and that dove sailed right into his face and knocked him off his hunting stool, i couldnt even write the post without chuckling
buckee
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I've had a lot of weird and sometimes funny things happen to me while hunting. My buddy and I went hunting once when I was 16. The plan was for him to hunt for rabbits and squirrels up in this bush, while I dropped down into the creek bottom to see if I could get a fox, that might be trying to get away from him and circle around using the bottom, which they often did. I didn't see anything, for an hour or so, as I slowly hunted the bottom. I heard him shoot, then a couple more shots. I was well past him in the bottom now, so I started climbing the hill out of the bottom to the field, where he was in the bush across the field from where I would emerge. I was just coming to the top of the hill, and I was in behind this little round bush. As my body came up high enough to view the field (and I was walking pretty casual at this time), a red fox came barreling at me from the other side of the little bush. I guess my buddy had kicked him out while shooting at squirrels Anyway, this fox, was in high gear, and running straight at me, with his head kinda turned looking back at where he was coming from. He cruised past the bush and me at about 3 ft (no kidding) maybe even closer and I hip shot him as he headed down the hill for the river bottom. He did a pretty good somersault too, I'll tell ya. It was definitely a reflex shot..LOL
Griz
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I was set up over looking a well used trail while I was out bow hunting. As a decent buck came cruising on the trail 30 yards from. I shot and made a super shot on him. The buck made a real big loop and fell at the base of my stand. I was standing there in shock and couldn't believe what just happened... Have I ever told you that I peed on a armadillo one time... Funny thing is...I never seen him again... Guest Andrea
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I have a video hosted by Jim Shockey that contains nothing but home videos on it. ( Can't think of the name right now) but it shows some guys hunting turkeys with a bow. The guy shoots the turkey and the turkey takes off and flies right into the pop-up blind with the poor guy. Hilarious.
Nut
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I shot at a dove last fall and 2 fell. Not only that it happened twice the same day. What makes it strange is that it was me doing the shooting.
M00N
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I've had some funny things happen to me while hunting. The one year during the youth deer season, back when I was a youth, a hunter spooked a turkey. The turkey flew and clipped the hat off my head then crashed into the ground and tumbled around. Stood back up and looked at us confused and ran away. At first I thought I hawk tried to attack me or something and was stunned looking around expecting it to attack again. Last turkey season I was sitting calling from my blind and next thing I know an owl flew and landed right infront of my face on the log next to me and stuck his head in my blind. Talk about giving me a real jump. He kept flying around my blind trying to look in the windows, but couldn't make me out I think because he was hopping from window to window looking in. Needless to say I had to end up moving my blind he wouldn't leave me alone and no turkeys were going to come in with a big owl hopping around. Jeramie
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I shot a buck once with a bow at roughly 20-yards. He hit the ground like a ton of bricks. I couldnt figure out how my bow had put him down like that. he literally dropped and never twitched. Come to find out he jumped the sting and tried to spin. The arrow hit his neck bone.... Game over. Tominator
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill Had a buddy go dove hunting with me once. He has an older Remington 1100, fixed full choke barrel on it. Well, one day, he let a dove get a little too close. The bird flew straight at him, he pulled the trigger centering the bird at about 10 yards. The bird literally disappeared! One of the funniest things I've ever seen hunting. I literally hit the ground laughing.

Newarcher
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill The guy asked a simple question. Come on, let's not be so sanctimonious here. He isn't asking for your story about how you shot an animal and it didn't die and you laughed while it writhed in pain. Animals do weird, wacky stuff and sometimes as we see here the hunters do weird, wacky stuff. I think the stories have been great so far let's keep them going. As for me, I shoot a Hoyt so there really isn't much funny about my hunts. I shoot, I hit, they die quickly! Edited to add that I DO understand what a couple of posters were saying about respecting the animal, but that doesn't appear to be what the original poster meant. Not trying to pick any fights with anyone. New
Guest Phaseolus (BeanMan)
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill My very first pheasant when I was about 14. I was walking a ditch bank and had a rooster get up from underneath my feet. I missed him twice with my 20 guage double and then he flew into the top wire of a fence and broke his neck. Rhino
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill The one that comes to mind was a dove hunt I had about 15 years ago. I was hunting with my black powder side by side and just happened to be where the birds wanted to fly through. It was one of those still calm mornings so the smoke cleared away slowly and I was firing away almost as quickly as I could re-load. Needless to say there was a smoke cloud along the the fenceline that I was on the corner of and one of my friends a couple of hunters down the line hollered out "hey Rihner, give us a break or we're all going to get cancer". Brianxt
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill I was turkey hunting one spring it was up in the evening time .I had a couple of hens come in about 40yrds from me.I was sitting against a tree with a old dead log beside it .I,m sitting real still and quit the hens spoke and take off I shift my weight a little when I moved my foot a dang Bobcat jump over the log on to my leg and boots.I went nuts screaming flopping like a fish out of water. It didn,t take the cat long to realize he had made a mistake that I wasn,t no turkey. The cat left and I had to go home and change my drawer. joebobhunter4
Re: Weirdest/funniest kill one that comes to my mind after reading the pheasant breaking his neck one... we were posting a big clump of trees and there were powerlines behind us. well birds were coming out so fast that we couldnt reload fast enough... after a while we started backing up so we had more time and after we ran out of shells more birds kept coming... needless to say we didnt even need shells... a rooster and 2 hens killed themselves by hitting the wires... was pretty funny watching them hit it going full speed and just rolling all the way to the ground haha. I have never shot an animal and had a feeling of there being anything funny about it, actually more often, I still feel a rush of mixed feelings most often including a bit of remorse. I have however witnessed quite a few wildlife situations that were quite humorous. Watching a couple does kangaroo boxing ranks up there. Sometimes get a chuckle to myself solely out of watching what the animals do when they are totally oblivious to my presence.
