Strut10
Anybody know what's the talles tire that'll fit & clear under a stock height '03 Suburban Z-71?? It's a 1500. Stock tire is a 265/70R-17 which is around 30 1/2" or 31", I think. They are gonna need replacing and look too darned little under there. LifeNRA
Re: Tire sizes??? Pretty sure I have the 275/70R17 on my full size 1500 Blazer, BF Goodrich's. I will recheck them in the morning.
lil hunter
Re: Tire sizes??? 265's come stock. You can move up to 285's, but they will probably rub just a little bit, on tight turns. You could crank your torsion bars just a little bit to completely clear the 285's though. There are some minor drawbacks to that though. It will make your ride a little bit rougher, and it will be a little rougher on some of the front end parts. A lot of people still do it though. AJ
Re: Tire sizes??? Your stock tires run about 10.7" wide and 31.7" tall. If you step up to the 285/70R17 you will have a tire that is 11.5" wide and 32.8" tall. It will only take up 1/2" of the clearance you have now. The original tire spins 654 rev per mile at 45 mph and the the larger tire spins 632 revs per mile at 45 mph. This will give you a speedometer reading that is about 3.5% slower than what you are going. Your rpm's will also go down slightly at highway speeds. Shaun_300
Re: Tire sizes??? You could definetly fit 285's on it no prob Strut, there's a few trucks that come into the dealer that the owner had upgraded the size of tire to the 285s and they've had no prob with scrubbing the frame or fender wells. Strut10
Re: Tire sizes??? Sounds good on the 285's. I'd like to put some 35's or 38's on it. But the suspension lift just ain't in the budget today.
Shaun_300
Re: Tire sizes??? I reccommend the BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A's or if you do lots of off-roading, the BFG Mud-Terrain T/A's. They are awesome tires and they look great too.

Nick
Re: Tire sizes??? Crank the torsion bars, get a wheel alignment and squeeze some 295 BFG's under there. Your speedometer will be off a little and it will cost you a little more but it will look sweet!! [ QUOTE ] $600 for four tires though! [/ QUOTE ] LOL, $600???? I paid $1300 for the set you see on my truck in my avatar!!! Money does you no good unless its spent!! You only live once, get what you want!! Shaun_300
Re: Tire sizes??? You guys all have it good! When I make estimates up at work for truck tires for customers, 265 BFG All terrains It's $1000 after taxes. Michelin LTXs are usually $1100. I wish tires were that cheap up here! snapper
Re: Tire sizes??? First off...when did you get a '03 Suburban? Second...I don't know for sure about that 285 fitting without rubbing inside the fender well. My 2500 came stock with 245/65/16....I went up to a 265/75/16...but there would have been rubbing if I went up to a 285. Granted we are talking about different trucks...and rim sizes...but whatcha gonna do if you go home and they are rubbing?
wtnhunt
Re: Tire sizes??? Without going and looking, I think I have 285's on my 98 model 3/4 ton chevy. They do not rub, unless you hit a big hole in a field.

I went from 225/70/16's to 235/75/16's. I was blindly just looking at the 225-235 difference and forgetting about the 70-75 difference. Ended up having to nip about a 2 square inch corner off the plastic inner fender lip with a set of side cutters and that was it.

And how badly does it screw up the ride? This is not gonna be my off-roader. If it were....BFG All Terrain TA's wouldn't even be a consideration. They are the best looking tires you can put under a truck. But (A) Goodrich is owned by the french and (B) I don't consider them (traction-wise) to be anything more than a good summer tire. Shaun_300
Re: Tire sizes??? Don, the torsion bars will give the front end a couple inches when you crank them up, but the more you crank them up the more stiff the ride will be in the front. AJ
Re: Tire sizes??? Nah, the BFG AT/KO will go fairly decent off road. Unless you are in the slop and slime, they really are good all year tires. I had no problems in the snow with them and in light mud they will do just fine. the Mud TA/KM are definately more agressive and wear about the same I went through 3 or 4 sets of them on my Chevy. They did cost me about 1-2 mpg though. I almost went with Mud TA/KM on my Dodge, but I don't want to loose the milage. I will take every mpg I can. The "day in-day out" tires on my Cherokee are of the same basic tread design as the MT T/A. I'd get nowhere with AT T/A's. I know. I used to run them exclusively on Ford and Dodge pickups. A tread design like that is the best for general, all around usage. But it just doesn't cut the mustard for the way I use a 4x4. You'd need to follow me around for a couple weeks and you'd understand.
