Re: Your Heritage/Nationality

Russian and Black Dutch on my father's side. On my mother's side, Welch and American Indian, although the Indian portion is difficult to ascertain. In the mid to late 1800's my mother's great-grandfather was killed and scalped by Comanche Indians near the town of Comanche, TX. At that time Indian became a bad word in the family, and all traces of Indian heritage were methodically removed from the family records. I still have an old family Bible where there are names in the lineage that were blacked out. Presumably, those were my Indian ancestors.

Re: Your Heritage/Nationality

My paternal grandmother was born and raised in Trieste, Italy, which is why most of my family has blonde hair and blue eyes.

My paternal grandfather's ancestors were originally from England and Poland and have been here since the 1500's. Traced back to the Randall family. He was born and raised in Waterloo, Iowa.

They were married when he was stationed in Italy.

My maternal grandparents are both from South Carolina (Gaffney and Charleston) and are of Scott-Irish descent, although my grandmother's mother was part Cherokee.

Both of my grandfathers were in the military and were stationed at Fort Benning, Ga, which is how my family ended up in Columbus.

So......I guess I'm 1/4 Italian, part English-American, part Polish, part Scott-Irish-American, part Cherokee. In other words....an old-fashioned American mutt!

Re: Your Heritage/Nationality

American Indian Eskimo / French / English here. Born in Anchorage, Alaska.

Adopted at birth, so I really don't have too many people to ask these questions to. Just came into contact with my birth mother 3 years ago, but have not heard from her in quite sometime now....not because of a lack of effort on my end though.... frown.gifcrazy.gif

Re: Your Heritage/Nationality

Mostly German, and then Cherokee, and Black Foot. Im sure there are others in the mix but that is the jest of it.

My last name is Coffelt. When my family moved to America it was Kauffieldt. It was later changed. We actually have a couple of published books on our lineage. "Coffelts in America" is one.

Also, the only person to die protecting a president was Leslie William Coffelt. From the same original Clan. There is also a memorial to him in DC as well as Coffelt hall (library).
