too_pointer
So, if I want a good reliable shotgun that would shoot 12.ga. target loads, up to heavy 3 1/2" loads, would Bennilli be the best ? I believe it has inertia trigger ?? If I can pull this off, it will be the last shotgun I buy. If there is another as good for a little cheaper, let me know. thanks for opinions. too_
dogdoc
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? I believe Remington has a model 11-87 SPS that will shoot all three. Don't know how it compares to Benelli as far as price and performance though.
Tominator
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? My Benelli shoots dinky trap loads all the way up to 3" loads. I think the SBE has a 3.5" chamber on it though. The inertia system is cool. My Montefeltro has jammed on me a grand total of one time. I had been sitting outside in 10 degree weather for about 2 hours waiting on doves. I shot one and looked down to reload after picking up the dove and noticed the bolt was jammed open. I attribute that to the cold weather and dirty receiver that I hadn't cleaned in quite some time. Can't go wrong with the Benelli IMHO. LifeNRA
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? My Browning 500G will shoot anything back to back up to a 3" shell! One thing though, they dont make them anymore! I love this gun, never failed me yet! Plus it looks like my fathers A-5 that he bought when he was 16 years old! Has the Humpback design. But I am sure that Browning still makes a shotgun that will do the same, maybe not up to the 3.5" loads. But 3" loads.
coles
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? i have an extrema and sometimes the trap loads dont have enough ummph to lock the bolt back after one shot and kick the shell out. but if you are looking for something that will shoot everything and is easy to clean with not many parts a benelli is the way to go. AJ
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? If you want the shotgun to handle all ammo from light 7/8 oz target powder puff loads through the biggest heaviest 2 5/8 oz Nitro Company Magnums, you can get the Mossberg 835, The Browning BPS, or the Rem 870 Super Mag. They are significantly cheaper than the semi auto guns and are more reliable.
woodsman2230
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? Benelli has whats called an inertia system which relys on the shell and a spring inside the bolt housing to work the bolt. Another nice thing with the benellis is that you dont have to change anything to shoot all of the different size shells because it is not gas operated. WaCoyote
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? I agree with AJ. Do you need a semi or will a pump do? I use a 3 1/2 BPS and the thing is a killer. I grew up on 870's but switched to BPS since they and Mossy were the first to chamber 3 1/2 inchers. I have no first hand experience with a 3 1/2 inch semi but I've heard that most will have trouble with the really light trap loads. The inertia system really struggles since it relies in recoil to operate the bolt. If I were to buy a semi shotgun in 3 1/2" it would be a Browning Gold or Win super X 2. Good luck. WABS
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? I can't necessarily speak for some of the newer semi-autos, but I do own a number of older semis and if the weather is nasty or depending on the type shells I'm using -- if I need to ensure that there will be a second and third shell ready to go on demand--I ALWAYS pick one of my pump guns. Guest Xen
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? go with an o/u for that - just be sure it has mechanical triggers if you are going super-light
too_pointer
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? Thanks. Sorry, but pumps have never been my favorite. I owned one for a couple of months and got rid of it, it just wasn't me. I suppose I could get an auto that would shoot up to 3" deciding on price. I already have owned a Moss. 835, not anymore. I might check out a Stoeger o/u. I know not high quality, but then I don't go BANG alot anymore. Thanks for your advice !! Keep the opinions coming, I'm still open. too_
LifeNRA
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? Just seen this on Browning's web site! http://www.browning.com/products/rebates/gold_rebate.asp
Strut10
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? Super X2 will function any & everything.....every time. No fiddling with O-rings or whatever. The Gold is the same basic thing.
WaCoyote
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? I just read an old gun tests article that said the Browning Gold and Super X2 functioned with the lightest to heaviest loads. Pick the one that fits you the best but they are basically the same gun. AJ
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? There is another option. You can get this Browning Citori. It does have 3.5" chambers. It will shoot all 12 ga ammo. You also have the benefit of two chokes.
Guest okla_bowhunter
Re: a 12 ga. shotgun that will shoot any loads ?? 12 ga. 870 express will handle everything from a 2 3/4 to a 3 1/2. Pretty good overall gun.
