QDMAworks4me
Do you guys really think that this will help cut down on drinking before the prom?? Lexington High School Says No To Limos At Proms (WBZ) LEXINGTON One student says it takes away some of the magic that makes prom night special. In an effort to cut down on pre-prom drinking, Lexington High School has joined a small number of Massachusetts schools that have banned students from arriving at their junior or senior proms in limos or other private vehicles. Instead, teens will be required to gather at the school and travel to the prom in a chartered bus or trolley. Lexington officials say the policy was prompted in part by the death of 18-year-old Andrew Stone, a former Lexington High student, back in January. He was killed in a car crash that may have been alcohol-related. A group of students is petitioning the school district to reverse the limo ban, which is similar to policies in the Cohasset, Marblehead, and Silver Lake districts. Randy
Re: Limos banned at prom Sounds to me like they are promoting drinking and driving. The kids are going to drink if they want to regardless. They aren't going to ride the bus all night. So, they'll take their car or a friends car and drive themselves. wtnhunt
Re: Limos banned at prom Really am not too sure what to think on this. It is about impossible to stop kids from drinking after the prom. Educating kids the best you can and hoping they make the right decisions helps, schools when I was in high school would not let kids in if they suspected that the kids had been drinking prior, but that does nothing to help what takes place afterwards. The idea of the bus rides seems like it might not be so bad, but realistically how many kids are going to ride a bus or trolley?

PAhardwoods
Re: Limos banned at prom I went to a rather small highschool. i graduated with a class of 93 kids we had to take breathalizers (sp?) before we were allowed into any dance, i understand at bigger schools this may not be the way to go simply because of cost Cody
Exturkinator
Re: Limos banned at prom I don't think it will cut down on pre-prom drinking - they are not focusing on the root problem here.

In otherwords, they should know that alcohol should not be in their vehicle! I would think that somehow they could be held responsible for those passengers under the drinking age. JMO [/ QUOTE ] i don't think they are promoting drinking and driving at all...the original post says [ QUOTE ] In an effort to cut down on pre-prom drinking, Lexington High School has joined a small number of Massachusetts schools that have banned students from arriving at their junior or senior proms in limos or other private vehicles. [/ QUOTE ] seems to me that it is either ride the bus or trolly, or don't show up. and if they decide they aren't going to go because of the rules, they will go out and do what they do every other time...and unfortunately there will be kids who go out and drink after the prom when the bus drops them off...but at least the school is trying to do something about them drinking and driving to the prom...it is a start
LETMGROW
Re: Limos banned at prom Sometimes I wonder if drawing attention to these problems doesn't add to the problem. There will always be a few who will try to beat the system.

DU_man_84
Re: Limos banned at prom first off they think kids are drinking in the limo, when already they are underage, so wouldnt someone say something about not drinking in the limo, like maybe the driver, get big time busted for that, so i mean since you have a limo no matter the age its ok to drink cmon'
Newarcher
Re: Limos banned at prom The same goes for this issue (prom) and at work. I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of managers or administrators punishing the many for the sins of the few. We have one lady in our department that constantly cuts hours. I mean she hasn't been here five days a week in three years. She was out 50+ days last year and of the days she was here, she leaves and only comes back to sign out. Yet we--the people who arent' cutting hours--get included on the email chastising us all for cutting hours. I just fire it right back and tell them I am not cutting hours. I hate managers who do this because they are afraid to confront the offender. This is an example of an administrator with a god complex. Go control your own life and let me control my child's life. If I want to send them in a limo so I don't have to worry about 6 kids piling in a car and a distracted driver killing themself and others, I will. Think most limos have some sort of privacy glass between the driver and the back as well, I am sure more than just underage drinking goes on in limos enroute to and from proms. LETMGROW
Re: Limos banned at prom So what is the Limo driver to do? Here is a guy who will make a few bucks driving a bunch of kids around. Not a lot of pay and probably little if any tip. The kids get smashed, get into trouble and who will be responsible? If the driver allowed drinking in his limo knowing the kids were under age, what is his liability? Does the poor guy go down swinging? If you were a Limo driver, what would you do?????
