Guest bruteshooter
My son and his fiance are being sent to Cherry Point NC, Located outside of Havelock, NC and near New Bern, NC. He's a Marine and will be stationed there soon. Anyone have links on off base housing (apartments), newspaper classified section links for employment? They have less than 30 days to get this together, so anything would help. THANKS
Guest Finn
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. Has he talked with the housing office at the base? http://www.cherrypoint.usmc.mil/Housing/Housing.asp

Guest bruteshooter
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. Thanks. Just spoke with Kim @ CP Housing. Someone told us wrong info on waiting. Depends on rank apparently.

Guest bruteshooter
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. YOU were the one willing to help Finn. Who knew just days ago I'd tell you that my son would keep a eye on Wisconsin for you while you were in NC and now it seems you'll be reversing roles. Thanks Finn. Nice women at CP, and very helpful. Just when I think the kids a man and doing well, he calls "Daddy" all worked up and panic stricken.

dg
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. bruteshooter, Is this his 1st assignment? Is he getting on base housing because of if his rank or prevented from getting on-base housing because of his rank? The housing office will give your son a list of available apartments, houses, etc within the price range he needs from local renters that communicate openings available in the area. Google the area and you can probably get the on-line newspaper classifieds, websites with apartment listings, and realty firms with rentals available. Figure out how much they want/can spend after a little research of the prices and start beating the pavement and making calls. And make sure he asks the housing office on areas to stay away from. Not all renters work with the housing office and could be suspect or shady. Tell him good luck.
Guest bruteshooter
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. Thanks dg. He's a E5 and was doing Recruiting in Wisconsin. He's in his second tour now. We got a hold of the base housing and things are working out we think. Being a retired Sheriff, one call to the County down there and all the "shady places" have been identified and are not a issue anymore. The perks still work, even after retirement. They were planning a wedding this summer but that may be moved up to the next couple weeks, since so much depends on his marital status. dg
Re: North Carolina Assistance please. Good deal brute, Yeah, if they get hitched, that will change some things! But if they are set on getting married, doing it before they arrive should make it better. I would reckon at least a month or more before the RNLTD will help to get his paycheck updated before arriving. I'm glad you have "contacts". You deserve it. Thank you............................
