My AC is leaking in the house. I have put in a new drain hose from the drippan and snaked the line outside where it drains to, but it is still leaking and screwing up my carpet bad. I am a pretty handy guy, but I dont know what else to do. If anyone has jacked with this befor, anything would be helpful. I dont want to spend a whole lot if I dont have to.

Thanks yall, grin.gif

Re: help with AC unit Please!!!

Use a drain cleaner suitable for the type of discharge hose you have. Or if you can take the hose off and see if it will drain from the pan right out to the ground or a bucket. Sorry can'r be of more help?

Re: help with AC unit Please!!!

Here is a few things to check.

It sounds like either your pan line is plugged or kinked, but you said you put a new one on and snaked it, so that shouldn't be it.

Where the drain line attaches to the pan, do you have a valve there that may be shutoff? Take a look in the pan itself, is the water getting to the level where the drain is at?

Since you just replaced it, you don't have the drain line running higher than the pan anywhere do you, maybe going over some rafters instead of under or through?

I checked to make sure that noting was kinked or over rafters and such. I think that the problem is in the pan itself. I have cleaned it out, but I cant see in there well enough to see where a clog might be. I feel like an idiot... crazy.gif Maybe I should just call an AC guy????? confused.gif

Re: help with AC unit Please!!!

Mine only did that once before I put a big pan underneith the unit.

Fill the factory drain pan with water and then hold a wet vac on the outside drain.

You'd be surprised what you will draw out even though you have alredy run the snake through it.

The carpet will dry, but this leak will really mess up your underlayment such as particle board or plywood.

Good luck,

I had that problem last year. Finally I just drilled a hole in the bottom of unit in the back part that is hanging out the window. Then I set it up so it was tilted backwards. Worked well for me.

Re: help with AC unit Please!!!

i do hvac for a living.... if you still need help pm me and i'll get into detail with you!!! if the pan is over flowing , you should check to see if the water in the pan is reaching the hole where the drain comes out...if not stick a matchbox car or something under the two back corners of the pan it will force the water toward the hole..........if that is not the problem, you can take a dryer vent brush and ream out the drain , .....does it have a trap in it? is the pan before or after the blower wheel(is the pan between the filter slot and the blower wheel) if it is it needs a trap in it or the fan will not let the water drain properly!!! let me know what ya find i'll do everything i can to help!!!

Re: help with AC unit Please!!!

Thanks for the help whitetailkiller grin.gif I think that I got it figured out now. There was a piece of PVC that was full of junk. I got it all cleaned out and ran some bleach through it. It seems to have done the job.... for now anyway. Thanks again to all who replied. Just another reason why this is the best forum on the web!!! grin.gifgrin.gif
