Deb
How do you get rid of cat urine oder from a wood floor. The carpet has been pulled up and removed, but the urine made it to the floor. This is a new house to me, but the previous owner must have left this cat in the room with the door closed too many times. I'm going to recarpet, but I want this oder gone before I cover the floors! Any miricle chemicals out there that will neutralize this oder????
Guest bruteshooter
Re: cat urine problem, help!! We ended up pulling up the floor and replacing the wood. Our previous owner had the same issue except with dog pee.
RangerClay
Re: cat urine problem, help!! Do you want to save the wood floors or recarpet? If you plan to recarpet, you can paint the floors then put your carpet down. That is what we did.
Deb
Re: cat urine problem, help!! Not saving the floor, I was kinda thinking about shelacing over the spots??? Painting sounds like a better than shelac.

[ QUOTE ] the shelac or laquer or kilz works the best [/ QUOTE ] Yup Kilz, Binz, or plain ole silver paint works great. We had a house fire here a little over a year ago and used the Kilz on the interior of the house after it was gutted and it got rid of all smoke odor. Worked great. [/ QUOTE ] If you want to save that surface incase you or future owners want to refinish and keep it, there is a spray on product you use for cat urine, and it works. My wife managed a vet clinic for years and I guess they tried it. Stuff worked like a charm.... Ill ask her what it was when she calls me later. RangerClay
Re: cat urine problem, help!! [ QUOTE ] the shelac or laquer or kilz works the best [/ QUOTE ] The previous owners of my home raised great danes. Our problem was the smell of dog pee. I think we used Kilz and the results were instant. We put the carpeting down in a week and never smelled it again. Cat pee is much stronger and may require a couple coats. wtnhunt
Re: cat urine problem, help!! Would agree that Kilz should take care of the odor.
JDAWG
Re: cat urine problem, help!! Before you paint it, put baking soda on it for a while, sweep it up then you can use Kilz. Kilz will cover anything.
Deb
Re: cat urine problem, help!! Jdawg, that's what I did last night and covered it with plastic( so I wouldn't track it all over the house). I think I'll overkill it a little and Kilz it then shellac over it. Thanks everyone!!!!
