According to P&Y, none of the deer I shot in my first 10 years of bowhunting were fairchase, because I was using a 70# bow.

I'm not going to let these clubs dictate to me what is fair, or ethical.

[ QUOTE ]

kill something from an erected blind inside a darn fence!!!!!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Are you against blinds and treestands too??

I mean, after all, fence or no fence, when using a blind or treestand, the game comes to you, you don't go to them.

[/ QUOTE ]

You know what I mean!!! If you want me to lay it out "elementarily" for you I will.

Bottom line, it is a shame to kill any game animal inside a fence. I don't really know what to say. Now we heven have the moderators changin the subject and making excuses for high fence hunts. It is really a shame!!!!!!!!

I guess I'm through!!!!!--Rossman

The moderators and other people are coming up with some very good arguements and obviously you can't give an answer. You keep saying the same thing over and over again and its not really proving your point. I noticed you only pick out things that you can actually say something about off the top of your head. What about the whole point that Buckee brought up about the animals that cannot be let to roam free through North America? Why can't you answer the question about the size of the land? You keep saying "it is a shame to kill any game animal inside a fence", but you are not looking at the type of situtations with high fence hunting in any other way than that is absolutley wrong.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've answered the question about the size of the land!!! I do not think it is ethical to kill an animal inside an encloseure, no matter what size. That's just me.

As for the iosland comment? Last time I checked Deer can swim. Or am I wrong? Water is a natural barrier, a fence is not, of course....

I'm not done. Don't Fret!!!! You'll here more of my genius ideas grin.gif--rossman

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!!

Hey Rhino, I was being totally facetious with that post about guides. Heck, I've hunted with guides several times and I've guided others (for pay no less grin.gif) many times. And there's absolutely nothing wrong with that in my book, but I'll bet you a dollar to a donut hole that there are people out there who have the opinion that hunting with a guide is NOT fair chase!

My point was to illustrate how almost any aspect of our sport could be presented as unethical by someone who, for whatever reason, decides a certain technique is wrong. This is all about understanding, and perhaps even dispelling, some of the prejudices that exist among hunters.

Question for you Rossman, If we put the fence up along the border with Mexico that is being discussed, and a few years later decide to put one up on the border with Canada, that will in effect make the whole USA an enclosed area with either high fence or ocean. Will you quit hunting if that happens? grin.gif

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!!

I don't think it is prejudice to believe it is unethical to hunt inside a fence. In any group there are subgroups and each subgroup does things and thinks differently.

When hunting inside a fence there are too many advantages given to man and disadvantages given to the animals. Yeah, a deer could keep circling the hunter but with enough time, that hunter will kill the deer because that deer cannot use his flight response. Now, hunt the same deer without a fence. That deer may not be killed. If your a good enough hunter maybe the deer could be killed. But that deer has the opportunity to live. Fences, help the not so good hunters kill trophy animals. If you or I are not good hunters then we should have less of a chance to kill a trophy animal. Only the good hunters should be able to have a better chance at killing a trophy animal. That's what makes them good.

We should try and preserve the trophy status of the animals we kill. If every dude that hunts kills a trophy animal, then there will be no trophy quality anymore. The trophy quality animal will just be that average animal that is killed. And fences will not help!!!!!!

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!!

Since there seems to be some confusion over the use of the word. Here is the definition of prejudice.

[ QUOTE ]

PREJUDICE is, as the name implies, the process of "pre-judging" a particular person, place or thing for the way it acts, looks, or even who or what it is involved with. It implies coming to a judgment on a subject before learning where the preponderance of evidence actually lies, or forming a judgment without direct experience. When applied to social groups, prejudice generally refers to existing biases toward the members of such groups, often based on social stereotypes; and at its most extreme, results in groups being denied benefits and rights unjustly (see persecution) or, conversely, unfairly showing unwarranted favor towards others

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!!

maybe not going anywhere, but it sure is interesting. i agree with rossman. i'll personally not hunt a high fence area. i have hunted islands, and still do. i've seen deer, elk, moose and wolves swimming. islands are not high fenced. now, i also support anyone who does want to hunt a high fence, but not a really small one. finally, with 44 years of guiding hunters and outfitting, i can assure you it is truely fair chase. i've not had an animal surrender yet!lol just a professionals knowledge of the game, the habitat, and how to hunt that area is what you are paying for. and i've not only been an outfitter, i've often hired outfitters for my game quest.

Re: Appropriate High Fence Thread!!!!

I have a problem with high fence outfits that garantee a kill-that pretty much says that the animal is going to get compromised along the way. I hunt on my own property most of the time. There is a 320 acre parcel that we hunt alot-I could high fence it and turn just about anybody loose in it and they'd have trouble killing the bigger bucks out there. I've hunted it all my life and I sure do lol. high fence places are maybe ok for handicapted people or zoo species but if your healthy and able bodied I think an unfenced hunt is quite a bit more rewarding.

That is where you and most of us here seem to differ from rossman. Most of us here from what I have read have never hunted a high fence, and might not ever, but do not blast or look down on those who do.

Gensis 1:26

"And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth ."
