Release or no release?

Just a cool, quick question, more like a small poll.

Do you use a release for your bow shooting, or no? I use no release, I don't place much trust in a mechanical release, and shoot better with my fingers anyway.

Take care,

Nathan

Re: Release or no release?

Yes, I use a release. I also enjoy traditional archery as well. There are still many hunters that prefer to shoot with fingers due to the readiness to draw at any time. It definately takes alot more practice to be proficient releasing with fingers though. One time on the way out from my stand I came right up on a nice doe...after I had taken my release off of course. I went home and just tried shooting my compound with fingers just to see, and I'm glad I never attempted a shot. I was WAY off.

Re: Release or no release?

I've shot a release for many years....originally used a tab, but the consistency of a release made the difference for me.

I have never had a release fail in 20+ years of using one.

Re: Release or no release?

I shoot both compound and trad and they both have there place.

For me the spot on accuracy is a must when shooting my compound. Something I can not achieve shooting fingers off the wheelie bow. Lord knows I have tried. LOL

On the other hand there is no way I can use a release on my recurve. The higher poundage at full draw will have me punching my self in the face/cheek everytime (I have tried it as you can assume). Accuracy was terrible to boot.

There are several different styles of mech releases, none of which have failed for me, or anyone I know of. I have been shooting more then 20 years too.

I prefer the wrist strap/caliper style.

Re: Release or no release?

Shot fingers for 22 years, then switched to release last year after buying a new bow. Couldn't believe the improved accuracy from day 1. Would never go back to fingers. My daughter is just getting started shooting bow and I set her up with a release. Don't even want her shooting fingers, to much room for human error, IMO.

But it all boils down to what you feel most comfortable and confident in using, to make a quick clean kill on whatever you're hunting.
