bowin_in_illinois
Four Fire Dept.'s including mine had a training burn yesterday. These don't come around too often anymore, as people don't donate houses to burn as often as they used to. A lot of dept.'s will train by smoking up a house and "faking it", but the dept.'s in our area feel we should practice like it's the real thing. What we do is light a room up, and then send crews in to search for victims, and send another crew in to fight the fire. when it is out...we light it up again, and do the whole thing again. Different crews from different dept.'s switch roles rotating from one "job" to another, until the house can't take it anymore, and we just let it burn to the ground. Here are some pics (ok....not some...a LOT), and a short video clip my brother took with his camera. It was a long, tiring day...but good training, and fun too! CAN'T START THE DAY WITHOUT COFFEE! SETTING THE ROOF LADDER (THAT'S ME AT THE TOP) I'M ACCOUNTABILITY OFFICER FOR THE FIRST ROTATION (I'M IN THE BLUE SHIRT AND BUNKER PANTS) MY TURN TO GO "PLAY" (I'M THE LAST GUY ON HOSE W/ AN AXE HANGIN' FROM MY BELT) NOW WE'RE COOKIN'! TIME TO JUST LET IT BURN HERE IS MY BROTHER JOSH (HE TOOK MOST OF THE PICTURES AND VIDEO) HERE'S MY UGLY MUG TIME TO START CLEANING UP THE HOUSE IS GONE HERE IS A QUICK VIDEO CLIP OF THE HOUSE BURNING
OJR
Re: Training Burn I'm glad to see there are people who will let you firemen practice your trade instead of having to go in on the real thing!

HarvDog
Re: Training Burn Very cool pix but I'm confused about something. Wouldn't it be time to clean up AFTER you completely extinguish the fire?
bowin_in_illinois
Re: Training Burn The house we burned was in a neighboring town. their dept. will babysit it until they feel it is ok to leave it. They will continue to let it burn until it is in the basement. good question!

muggs
Re: Training Burn Cool pics. I watch them do a training burn on a three story house while I was going to college. It was across the street from the house my friends and I were living in at the time. We pulled up some lawn chairs and watched the show. Pretty impressive how fast fire spreads.
