Re: Need help on a DO it yourself Moose hunt in Alaska

Perry,

I will try to get you some information of some people in Alaska that do self-guided hunts from a friend. I am actually looking to do one in the future. The bush pilot will fly you in and out or he has one where he flies you up river and you float the river. I just have to get the info for you. It might take a few days. I will PM you when I get it.

Thanks Ron! Good to hear from ya! Glad you and your Dad are doing well! Tell him I said "hi"!

ANd thanks for the help- I'll let Rod know.

Season was bitter-sweet.....................managaed to shoot 2 doe on the same day in late Oct, but also messed up on a buck that very day. After shooting the first doe, I had a buck come in to 40y and stop right on the trail the doe came in. Unfortunately, the cell phone was not on vibrate and my buddy called me spooking the buck. After looking for his deer for a few hours, I got back in the stand and shot another doe just before dark. First time I ever shot 2 doe on the same day wiht the bow! Luckily it was cold enough to leave the first one lay after tagging and gutting it. And luckily I had help to drag them both out! smile.gif Then in Nov. things never really materialized..............No rutting activity! crazy.gif Never did see a buck in Nov!

P.S. I finally got my Caribou back from the taxidermist. I told him to take his time so I would have more time to save up. It looks great up in our loft! Not the biggest, but I had him freeze-dry the velvet on the rack and it looks great- and it brings back all the memories of that great trip! cool.gif

How was your season?

there's a book at your local bookstore called "the milepost". in it are dozens of ads for fly in camps for moose, etc. i'd hire a competent pilot to fly you where you decide to go. or, use one of his camps. also, there are places to rent equipment such as boats, tents, etc. i've got 35 years experience in alaska and i will tell you straight out.... it's unforgiving. be in good shape, have great equipment, and remember that alaska has no clock. your pilot may be a week behind picking you up, as weather is always a factor. conditions are rough & rugged. it's alaska. be prepared for a survival situation.
