OJR
Re: .405 Winchester That was Teddy Roosevelts favorite caliber! They are starting to make them again. From what little I have read about them, they are not a long range caliber and they will let you know when you pull the tigger that something happened!!! LOL!! Guest ronin
Re: .405 Winchester I saw the 1895 in a shop the other day. Sweet looking rifle but I'm a sucker for lever guns anyway.
AJ
Re: .405 Winchester Ballistics wise, it is the same as the .45-70 and .450 Marlin. The trajectory will be slightly flatter due to the same weight bullet in a smaller diameter package. Hornady offers a 300 gr factory load going 2200 fps. When zeroed at 100 yards, its 8.3" low at 200 yards. the only problem is Hornady is the only one offering ammo. I don't see others jumping in and offering ammo with such a small market share. If you reload, it can make the cartridge come to life.
iron buck
Re: .405 Winchester I have seen several lever action Winchester 95s in 405 Winchester at local gun shows. I always wanted to pic one up but never wanted to pay teh asking prices LOL. I like the fact that the round is in production again. It was a favorite of Teddy as pointed out above but also of Elmer Kieth.........who wrote about the round a lot. Even if the balistics are duplicated by others. The "Lion Medicine" 405 has a great appeal to me. Maybe I'll look into one of those Rugers!
