Guest Colorado Bob
Is anyone else here in the 2 3/4" fraternity? My old 870 will only shoot 2 3/4" shells----so that's what I use----Federal's 1 1/2oz of #4's. It's been racking up the Merriams for years now. I use either an X-full or standard full choke. I taken a couple gobblers @ 40 yards but the majority are @ 25 yards. Anyone else use "Baby Mags"? Strut----since I can only use "Baby Mags" am I banished from OTPG? CB [/ QUOTE ] The OTPG is a metallic cartridge fraternity, anyways, Bob. So, even if you were shooting 3 1/2" 10 gauge stuff.........it wouldn't qualify you. Sorry. My first several gobblers were dusted stone dead by a Winchester 1200 tossing 2 3/4" loads. Worked good. I've also patterned out the Iver Johnson single I inherited from my grandpa. It'll lay a good dose of whoop on a turkey to 35 yards anyhow. Did you ever consider trying #6's in your 870?? With the lighter payload of the shorty mag you would pick up a good deal of pattern density by going to the smaller shot.....especially if you are killing most of your birds in close. Know your gun and it's limitations.....whether it's a 2 3/4" or a 3 1/2" and you'll have good success.
3whunt
Re: 2 3/4\" Fraternity Yep, I carry a rem. 1100 that shoots 2 3/4 #6's. I have no problem killing birds out to 40 yards. I even downed one bird at 47 yards. My wifes first turkey was shot with this gun at 43 yds. They will definitely do the trick. I did knock "one" down that got up and flew off. However, we stepped off the distance at 54 yards. He was standing over a little rise that made him appear a lot closer. Less than thirty yards...Game over...I win everytime. I also carry a mossberg that shoots 3" #4. I only use it when my wife or dad has my remington 1100
woodsman2230
Re: 2 3/4\" Fraternity I killed my first bird with a 2 3/4" Remington Express Load. It did some damage to him. Although he was 5 steps from me. LOL!

pointing_dogs_rule
Re: 2 3/4\" Fraternity I've killed a many bird at 20 yards with those loads. I enjoy the show too much to shoot them at any further distance. The dog
