MichiganHuntr1
I gotta say...im thinking about sitting out this year on everything. Fishing, hunting, the works. This doubling of liscense fees is making me sick. Its gonna cost 90 bucks for all my deer tags this year. 60 For Fishing. 30 for Turkeys, and small game. Same for waterfowl. Are they basically trying to make it where nobody wants to be out in the woods?
muggs
Re: Michiganders Wow, fishing and hunting licenses are $19 here in Ohio. I'm in a three deer zone so that's $76 for all three deer tags and a fishing license. I haven't bought a turkey tag in a few years, but I think those are $24ish?? You can take two birds. So you talking $124 to fish, max on deer and turkey and that doesn't include a migratory bird stamp if that's your thing.
MichiganHuntr1
Re: Michiganders Yeah but we get 1 turkey. And waterfowl wise i think were both the same 2 birds a day. Everything of ours doubled. I know of alot of people that may be sitting out this year because of the DNR.
Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Michiganders buy em now...they went on sale for this year earlier this month..with all the talks of them wanting to do that, i bet a lot of people bought em already..i plan on getting mine sometime in the next few weeks...plus, you get like a 15% discount if you buy 4 or more licenses at one time...i plan on getting my fishing, deer, turkey and small game all in one shot. and even if they do pass this thing to raise the cost...i can't see them doing it all in one year...maybe gradually increasing them over the next few years, if they doubled them right off the bat, i can see a major decline in sales and a lot more illegal hunting
muggs
Re: Michiganders Yeah, I didn't mean to make it sound like I was trying to compete. Just saying how out of hand this is all getting. I have to wonder how much of that money goes back into the wildlife program. I bet most of it is going to congressman's golf trips.

MichiganHuntr1
Re: Michiganders Theyve already passed it supposedly. I guess april 1st is when everything doubles? At least thats what I hear? So Everyone in michigan get your licenses now. Too bad we cant buy deer yet. And muggs, i agree with you. I really dont like that Granholm, or Humpries with the Michigan DNR right now.

Exturkinator
Re: Michiganders People all around me wonder why there is a net egress of folks OUT of Michigan - this is just an extension of the greater problem of over-taxation and excessive cost-of-living... AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Michiganders Remember guys, this is Jennifer's 5th year as Govenor and we are suppose to be blown away!! The license increase is really blowing us away!! Funny when I go to buy my licenses they never have the deer ones in stock yet. You can't get the discount because some places don't even have the tags yet. I hear the increase will be gradual over time and it would be the huge increase, hard to say but I think it will lead to even more poaching. I feel real bad for our senior hunters, they pay $6.00 now for a tag and it will go to $24.00 a tag. Most are on fixed incomes. Sad, that is why this state is in trouble, no perks for people to stay!!!!!

Nick
Re: Michiganders Yeah, thats a bunch of crap. And they wonder why the amount of hunters in the state are declining. They want to increase rates yet them worthless people havnt done a thing to help the hunting here in the state. They have shot off a good portion of the deer herd with all the permits they sell. They havnt done anything to improve the state land hunting. If you have to hunt state land......you might as well not even hunt because your probably not going to see a deer and if you do it will be a year and a half old. I'm fortunate enough to have acess to some private farm land so I get deer. But the hunting inst all that great there either and this is prime deer country. I guess I'm going to have to start doing what all the other hunters in the state are doing.......going on hunts out of state. At least you will see some deer an have a good chance at a nice buck. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Michiganders You got that right Nick, the increases will not help the herd out any. They are just happy selling tags and could really care less if you see 100 deer in a season or 1. Show them the money! Full of promises and this is going to happen, and then this, come one, they are not going to be any different than they are right now. Shame, they are ruining the outdoors experience for a lot of people on fixed incomes. How can a guy who has to buy tags for himself, his wife and his kids going to be able to afford the increase? craig mack
Re: Michiganders I bought my fishing license already. All there doing is pushing people away. Alot of people will be hunting illegally. I wont but many will.
MichiganHuntr1
Re: Michiganders My main thing is..our deer herd isnt good enough to be paying these prices for deer tags. If we had millions of bucks running around, it would be a different story. Our money wed give them would be wasted anyways. So why even have an increase.
