Bownarow
I would like to know if anybody has any information about how much additional drop I should expect when switching from a 100grain head to a 125grain head. OnTarget2 says I should only expect an approximately.25" change in drop at 20yds and an approximately 1.00" drop at 40yds, which I have a hard time believing. OT2 also says I will only get a drop of 5fps with the increase in point weight. Any comments?
buckee
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain Sounds about right. That's why I switched from 125's to 100's, just to bring things together a bit more.
PAstringking
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain that drop sounds about right...i like my 100g heads
VTbowman
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain I had switched from 100s to 125s a while ago and I thought I saw more drop then that off my set up. Especially out to 40 yards. But not 100% sure. Id have to check and see what mine does now. Been a long while. I have since gone back to 100s to get that little bit flatter shot. I feel that at the speeds and KE/MO my bow can produce, the additional 25g is not a huge plus factor for my hunting. Both blow threw deer so it boils down to how far into the ground I want my arrow to go after pass threw. LOL
VTbowman
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain On a side note. If you need to extra weight to spine your arrow correctly or simply like the larger cut diameters a 125g head gives over the 100g head then feel free. Your not gonna hurt you shooting/accuracy a bit IMHO...

Bownarow
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain [ QUOTE ] OnTarget2??? [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, check out the website. You can download a 10 day trial. It's really cool. I just checked it out today and was really impressed. Take my word for it, download it, check it out, and you won't be dissapointed. Basically the software allows you to input very detailed information about your setup and then gives you some calculated data based on your particular setup. Straight Shooter
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain Yes, that's pretty close to what you should expect. On average you'll drop 2-3 fps on every 10 grains you add in weight and vice versa on taking away weight. You won;t see much of a difference from 30 yards and in, but just a slight change in weight will make a difference out at 40 yards that you'll notice. It'll separate your 30 and 40 yard pins a bit more, now if you went the other way on weight it would bring them closer together. I wouldn't panic though, it's not going to big that big of deal. Leo
Re: 100grain vs. 125grain Yep about 5fps loss is right. You gain a little teeny bit of Kinetic Energy going heavier but not much. More important in selecting head weight is how they balance and spine your arrows. Different weight heads group differently. Weight has more of an effect on accuracy than trajectory. Certain weight heads will shoot more accurately out of your setup than others. Test shoot some different fieldpoints. Then select broadhead weight. There are other ways to deal with the speed loss if that concerns you. Sometimes you can replace full length vanes with blazers, switch from a 100 to a 125gr head and hardly change arrow weight at all. The resulting arrows will have a higher FOC and less spine. If you're borderline on spine that's a big mistake. But if you're high on spine and low on FOC the results of that change can be awesome! You may actually gain speed and accuracy. Even though the total arrow weight remains almost the same the blazers have less drag and spin the arrow more efficiently. 100grs is far and away the most popular weight. But some folks a finding the heavier 125s are actually a better choice for their set up.
