How many of you have read the Bible from cover to cover?? And was it the King James verzion , NIV or some other version??

I am sad to admit that I have not read the whole thing. frown.gif But I'd like to. I've heard that if one wants to....then they shouldn't read straight thru from Genesis to Revelations. That seems dumb to me. confused.gif Why wouldn't you read from the beginning to the end???

Re: Read the whole Bible?

I have started reading through a couple of times but never finished. I need to commit to it again and do it.

Many of the "read through the entire Bible" schedule have you read some in the OT and some in the NT in order to finish in a year. The other reason for NOT reading from Genesis to Revelation would be because it isn't in cronological order.

I had the bible on cassette tape. When I worked on the ships, I would listen to it in bed between 6 hr shifts. KJV

That's actually a great idea Steve. I have it on CD. Maybe I'll go through it that way.

I've always been a terrible reader. It was the only way I could do it.

Re: Read the whole Bible?

Buckee, I know what you mean. My wife got me this Bible for Christmas this year. It is called a Go Bible and it looks like an Ipod. The whole Bible is on this thing and there are several options. You can pick any verse to listen to or you can pick a story of the Bible to listen to. It also has a read the Bible in a year feature on it! I have been doing it and going to go through it that way. I have read most of it before, just never all the way through. Oh yea that would be NIV!

Not sure if it's available on cd but you could also check out the Good News Bible. It's an even easier translation.

Re: Read the whole Bible?

Andrea..............try looking at the English Standard Version. It is an easier read; but really tough to beat as far as a translation. I have good feelings about it and am very comfortable reading and studying this version as a Pastor.

As far as a Bible plan........there are some out there that allow you to read from the OT one day, the NT the next and you would read a Psalm and a Proverb every day. It breaks everything up and it helps me read my Bible each and every day.

Re: Read the whole Bible?

I usually try to read the Bible through every year. I don't read it straight through because I tend to get bogged down in the Old Testament-especially in the long books like Isaiah and Jeremiah, so I read one chapter in Proverbs, a few chapters in the Old Testament, and a few chapters in the New Testament daily. I read the King James Version-it's really not that hard to understand and a lot of the other versions omit words and whole verses that are important. I'd encourage you to definitely get a reading plan-if you read four chapters a day you can read through the Bible in a year.

Re: Read the whole Bible?

Several years ago I read the KJV through. But haven't since. I would like to try the bible in a year just have to make it a habit. If you would like a good downloadable bible that has many versons plus is searchable and has Strom loaded on it try http://www.e-sword.net/ e-Sword is a fast and effective way to study the Bible. e-Sword is feature rich and user friendly with more capabilities than you would expect in a free software package.
