Your Best Shot?

Re: Your Best Shot?

Well when I played soccer in H.S. during a regional game I scored on a shot from about past midfield. I popped it up straight into he sun and it bounced 10 feet in front of the goalie and over his head into the goal.

In basketball, with the clock winding down I dove for a loose ball, caught it about 12 inches off the ground with one hand and flipped it up over my shoulder into the basket. I was about 10 feet from the bucket.

Pellet gun I used to shoot flies off of our sidewalk. Stood bottle tops up on top of bottles and shot them off at 30 yards (done something similar with Al's .17) Hip shot sparrows up to 30 yards. All open sights.

For hunting - rabbit - had one take off basically off of my boot. Instead of running straight ahead he ran straight behind me. I had a small 28 gauge single shot that was really too small for me. I dropped to one knee, spun the gun behind me and shot from the hip stopping him dead in his tracks.

Pheasant - theres been alot. I hunted with some guys in SD a few years and pretty much any of them would tell you I can shoot better with my 28 than any of them can with their 12's. I've made some really unbeleivable shots on long range pheasants up there that I can't even describe, you just had to be there. 2 things that I'll never forget from SD is 1 - shooting my first triple (by the way only guy in the group that left his plug in) and 2 - Being a blocker down the hill from the field we were pushing, had 2 roosters come off the top about 10-15 feet appart, I nailed them both and cartwheeled them in unisign all the way down into the pond - that was cool!

Deer - Other than a 200+ yard shot on a deer with a slug gun I don't think I have any "best" shot yet. I just have incredibly strange and lucky events that lead up to the shot.

Turkey - my average shot is probably 20 yards. I did have one a few years back that was "farther". I'ld have to search back in the turkey room for the specifics but I'll just say when you think they are close enough but you think they look like an awful small bird - they are farther than you think grin.gif

That's a few, I just want to add that I was there for Tom's doe from Illinois and I can stand as a witness that it was a great shot and undoubtfully one of his best.

Here here! And you got a jerky recipe out of the hush hush deal. That doe never knew what hit it falling down hill like it did. Wonder of ol' Arnie will read this thread. grin.gif

Best shot with a bow was probally my first deer at 35 yrds. clean pass through double lung, he ran about 10 yrds.

With a rifle at the range when I was in the military, I made a head shot,on a target at 400 yrds open sights with an M4.

Re: Your Best Shot?

High 200's with a .30-06 and a 4x scope.

I wont even quote the yardage, every time I do people look at me like im full of it.

My brother stalked a doe and dropped her at roughly 100yds. Her girlfriend made a run for it. She finally stopped. I had a large oak tree for a rest. At that distance and a fixed 4x scope she looked like an ant. The first shot I missed clean, she just stood there. The second she heart kicked and took off. We went to where she was standing and blood spray everywhere. We followed it roughly 30yds through the timber... She had ran about 40yds. Game over....

Re: Your Best Shot?

In 2004 I shot a 14pt 155inch deer with my shot gun. I was probably 25 ft up a tree and the first shot was quartering towards me. I hit him at about 50yrds he ran from in front of me to my right. because I was sitting on the homemade deer stand's platform i couldnt swing with him. So I flung my legs around to the other side of the stand. Im a right handed shot and while I switched positions in the stand I switched gun hands pulled the trigger and down he went. hit him high in the neck. It wasnt skill by any means just instinct and a lot of luck. I've posted a picture of him before but here he is again!!!

Re: Your Best Shot?

The luckiest shot I ever made was at a doe at 36 yds right through the jugular. It was a fluke and wasn't where I was aiming. My bow was crap and I wasn't near as good at that shot. My best intentional shot was at a doe at 37 yds right through the heart. She went 70 yds and fell over dead.

Re: Your Best Shot?

My first bow kill was 40 yards with a pearson spoiler bow! My oklahoma buddies who saw that bow will tell ya that was a heck of a shot for the lil thing.

Best rifle kill was a 100+ yard running kill on my last buck that I shot. Rolled him up in one whack!

Re: Your Best Shot?

You bet I'm reading Tom's story about his Illinois doe.

I could never pull off the shot he made on that fat old doe.

I always try for a double lung shot.

Tom feels an arrow to the ham will take 'em out faster. I guess he proved me wrong. (At least on that doe)

My best shot? 20 yard ground squirrel with High Country bow and Muzzy broadhead on carbon arrows.

Used to shoot at butterflies with bb gun when I was a kid. As a younger adult, we used to shoot at lady bugs with bb guns while enjoying turkey camp.

Oh, no, the be kind to insect people will be after me now.
