Swamphunter
When I was younger I got a couple of tattoo's that I thought I really, really wanted. I was young and wouldn't listen to anyone because I thought I knew it all, and knew what was good for me. I wouldn't even listen to anyones opinion or advice and went and did what I wanted. I have about $500 - $700 invested in 2 tattoos that I would now like to have removed. Sometimes I am embarassed to take my shirt off at the beach because even though my tattoos are professionally done and look good, they just stand out from my skin. I have been to a doctor and he told me that skin graphs would be one of the ways to do it coming in at around $4000.00 that my insurance will not cover, but would leave scars. I then contacted another doctor that specializes in laser tattoo removal, but the nearest one is a 5 hour drive. Each session is about 15 minutes long and costs upwards of $500.00. He said it can take as many as 10 sessions and since I have 2 tattoos, that could be $10,000!! This method won't leave much of a scar though...but may not totally remove all the ink, and my insurance won't cover it either. The last method is dermabrasion where they "sand" the skin off. It is the cheapest of the three methods, but is very painful (like road rash), and leaves scars. Believe it or not..my insurance won't cover this one either!! I'm not sure if any of you have ever had tattoos removed or not, but was wondering which method you who did, may have went with. I have my mind made up, so don't try to talk me into keeping them. It is my decision, so please keep your responses on track and only what I want to hear. Sure wish my two young children would quit asking me why I got them, what they mean, and when can they get them....
wtnhunt
Re: Tattoo removal When the wife was working at the local hospital, a surgeon here was removing tats for hospital employees when he got his new laser for free for a limited time Ken. Think she said there were a few of her co workers who had some removed. Being the tough guy we know you are, think you could handle the dermabrasion no problems . buckee
Re: Tattoo removal I feel for ya Ken. I guess you could always get someone to drag you down the highway behind a truck. It's cheaper. (sorry...sick joke) When I was young, I was going to get some tattoos too, because all my friends had them, and of course I love art as well. What stopped me was simply the fact, that I couldn't decide what I wanted on my body, for all time. I came close to getting them a few times, but hesitated. Then I had my son when I was 19 years old, and re-thunk the whole thing. I couldn't imagine parading around in front of my kids, with my shirt off, displaying who knows what. So I decided against it. wtnhunt
Re: Tattoo removal With all your woodworking tools Ken, might consider going out in the garage and using a belt sander . Might hurt a little more, but would save a few bucks

mike
Re: Tattoo removal don't know what to say ken. i take it that you would rather have scars than the tats? thats alot of cash for the docs!! i have been hearing on the radio around here about some kind of removal system, i will try to pay more attention next time the comercial comes on and get the name for you. i think it was a slower process but it didn't sound like any scaring or high dollar procedures

NS whitetail
Re: Tattoo removal well Ken, I had a girlfriends name on my arm at one time and I had it removed. It may be hard for you to believe ( and I don't advise it ), but I burned it off with a cigerette. I was young and foolish at the time but it worked. I wish that I could get the other 2 removed ( but I won't be burning those off )

But I could be wrong...

Guest bruteshooter
Re: Tattoo removal Shame on you for not listening to Mom & Dad But I did hear that goats milk will cover most of it. It's done by the tattoo artist themselves or at least it used to be. Or...go to Chicago and claim to be a gang member. They get them removed for free if the promise to leave the gang. (Really)
HuntingInMaine
Re: Tattoo removal Have you looked into Tat B Gone? It's a cream that will fade the ink gradually. It's got great reviews in several tattoo removal sites, but does take a while to work (some people noticed fading after a month or so, but took 6 months for good results). If you want it gone fast (lasers), it's going to cost you, but if you don't mind the wait, the cream is a good option. Good luck!!
Newarcher
Re: Tattoo removal It's funny.....when you are young and not terribly bright it seems like such a great idea at the time. That's why I make some of these youngins mad when I give them my advice on tattoos. Oh well, worth the wrath I suppose. That's a hard call.....IMHO, you might as well keep the tats if you are going to have bad scarring and look like a burn victim. To me that's throwing a LOT of money out the window and trading one evil for another. Good luck and maybe you want to think twice about getting tazed again.....remember that the human body runs on electricity and disrupting that one too many times can be a bad thing. No one's life was ever made better or elongated by sudden bursts of electric shocks! New
