Heard about this talk a few weeks ago, but I think now its finalized. They are moving 10% of its operations to mexico! I believe Milton S. Hershey is rolling over in his grave!!! The company wants to save more money, but the CEO recieved over 27 million in perks last year alone! They say over 1500 workers will lose their jobs! I love Hershey chocolate, but if they do move, Ill support the other smaller chocolate makers in the area!

Re: Hershey Chocolate Moving To Mexico!!!

bottom line, greed and making more money, a million in profit is nothing anyone for a company, pure greed and they don't care about the American worker one bit.

They still want us to buy the product but it will get to the point where we can't afford to.

I guess the day when these other countries realize what a good wage is and fight for a better standard of living companies will continue to go elsewhere. Sad, really sad! frown.gif

Hershey Kisses Smith Falls, Canada Goodbye

After many decades, Hershey Canada, has said it will close it's dorrs and kiss Smith Falls goodbye.

It is reported that 100,000 manufactures have moved their production factories to Mexico and now, Hershey Canada will do the same.

Hershey has been a mainstain of Smith Falls for many decades and has been the lifeblood of this small town. Not only does Hershy have a chocolate factory here, it's candy store and plant museum attracts over 500,000 visitors in any one year.

As hundreds of protestors rallied outside the factory this past Saturday, the mayor received a phone message from the company saying they will not change their minds. Even still, the protestors say they will take their cause straight to Pennsylvania to have the company reconsider their decision.

Many rural towns have been affected by the closing of major manufacturers in their neighbourhoods and some think the Canadian wages are scaring them away. For less money they can do the same in countries who pay lower worker wages.

The article states: "In the past year, Domtar closed a paper mill in Cornwall, throwing more than 1,000 out of work.

Nestle closed a factor in Chesterville, costing 300 and 200 people in Arnprior will lose their jobs when Pfizer closes a plant.

The auto industry in southwestern Ontario and the forest industry in the northern part of the province are also experiencing tough times."

Re: Hershey Chocolate Moving To Mexico!!!

Thanks Steve! I live about 10 miles from Hershey, been going to that town since I was a little boy. Parents used to take us to Hershey park, the Hershey Zoo, Hershey Chocolate World, and the Hershey Gardens! Milton S. Hershey has to be rolling over in his grave at this! This man truely loved this area! Its a DARN shame what greed has done to this company!

The Legacy Of Milton Hershey

Milton S. Hershey (9/13/1857 - 10/13/1945) was not just a businessman, but a philanthropist. Famous for founding The Hershey Chocolate Company and Hershey, Pennsylvania, Milton Hershey built a successful business on the principles of hard work, ethical business practices, and the idea that a company's greatest resource was it's employees. During The Great Depression, instead of laying off workers, Milton Hershey employed workers to build such structures such as The Hotel Hershey, a community center, a theatre, a sports arena and a stadium in the chocolate factory's town. Even after his passing, the business has thrived, growing to a multi-billion dollar American industry. Today we ask Hershey Foods current leaders to preserve Milton Hershey's legacy and preserve the jobs of it's employees.

I'm a chocolate lover, but as far as I'm concerned, if they want to move their operations to any country at the expense of Canadian and American jobs, then they can sell their products to their new employees.

I second that!!! To many middle class jobs are being lost.

Well, do something about it. Become highly educated and take over a big company. Start caring about the little people and see how long you keep your job. Make profit and keep the stockholders happy. Their stock has been going down over the past 2 years so its time for a change.

You can thank unions for a lot of jobs moving to Mexico.
