colts1888
Re: Poor OSU The funny thing is that Oden FINALLY decided to show up for a game in this tournament and they still lose. Florida was going to make Oden beat them. Smart coaching. It had been the guards of OSU winning games lately, not Oden.
unioncountyslayer
Re: Poor OSU When they win, Oden rarely plays and puts up terrible numbers. When they lose, he has a big game. Kind of puts a nix on the whole theory that he may not put up big numbers like Durant, but makes OSU better by being on the floor doesn't it. [/ QUOTE ] I've said all along Conley is the key guy on that team. I knew OSU would be in trouble in this game because of Floridas guards. They can defend and all of them can shoot. Conley still played a heck of a game but Florida is just too much. It looked to me like OSU went conservative on defense with Oden. I think they were afraid he was going to pick up cheap fouls. He pretty much stayed at home underneath the basket all night and didnt help out on the high screens. It worked because it kept Oden on the floor, but it also gave Florida open jump shots all night long.

The moves he has when he cuts to basket reminds me of Nash.
Guest Finn
Re: Poor OSU So much for the start of the OSU dynasty one question: How was it a foul on Horford at the start of the game, when Oden put his forearm in Horford's back and pushed him 8 feet out from under the basket? Tominator
Re: Poor OSU Oh sure, easy to pop off on OSU and Oden now huh? Fact is, they got to the final, not NC, not Duke, not Wisconsin or 59 other teams that came to the dance. Then again, muggs probably deserves all this armchair quarterbacking. muggs
Re: Poor OSU I guess we're gonna have to start recruiting from prison yards, or where ever Donovan found Joke Noah. Seriously though, I did really enjoy watching everything I've been harping on you guys about Oden finally become blatantly obvious so maybe you guys will finally get it. btw Craig- this is the start of the Buckeyes dynasty. They'll be better next year, and better than that the year after. You just make sure you watch and enjoy it along with me.

[/ QUOTE ] What you have been harping to us is that Oden doesnt need to fill the stat sheet, he is just a winner. He wins championships. Guess what? Last night he filled that stat sheet and lost. No championships. He did the exact thing you rip guys like Durant and Kobe for doing.
Ohiobucks
Re: Poor OSU Nothing "poor" about the OSU basketball program, with the exception of their 3pt shooting last night. OSU's 3pt season average is 0.361. Last night they were 4 for 23 (0.174). 4 more 3pt'ers fall, which would still bring them in under their season average, the Bucks win by 3. ON THE OTHER HAND, Florida's 3pt season average is 0.409, last night they were 10 of 18 (0.556) . Get both teams shooting their 3pt season average and the Bucks win in a landslide..... Still a little bitter, can you tell? Gators were the better team, they are a force for sure. They deserve to be national champs, Congrats to them. I'm not surprised that a team of upper-classmen, who won it all last year, beat a young inexperienced team. But man, did Oden show what type of impact a big men can have on a game or what? Donovan ran 4 guys at him, and Oden out played them all. He did more than enough to put the Buckeyes in a position to win. The perimeter guys just couldn't knock down a 3. I credit that 3-2 zone Donovan ran. Wow, Florida's defense was good. That sealed it. And then the Gators were hot from beyond the arch...and there you go. This game was decided at the 3-point arch. Plain and simple. But Oden just showed why he's going #1 overall, I'll tell you that.
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Poor OSU When Lee Humphrey, the all time NCAA tournament 3 point leader is taking the court, don't you think the other team should have a defense in place to counter that? Instead they doubled up inside on Horford or Noah and left Humphrey open for the easy 3's. Until OSU's coach figures out how to stop both the inside and outside shooters simultaneously, they'll have a hard time winning a championship. Congrats to the Gators. Clearly they were the best team.
muggs
Re: Poor OSU texas, it's really pick your poison. If you play the perimeter, Noah and Horford are gonna beat you, and if you focus on them, Green, Brewer, and Humphrey will beat you. If there's a coach out there that can figure out how to stop both the inside and outside, he'll go down as the best ever. That Florida is a rarity in today's game. How many teams can bring their entire squad back after a championship? Not many. They had the talent, the experience and confidence. No one could have beaten them. btw- can Humphrey shoot it, or what?
Ohiobucks
Re: Poor OSU He was 4 of 7 from 3pt land, one basket made above his average for the season......defense is not the answer there. The Bucks were not making the 3 ball fall, if they would have been anywhere close to their average, the game has a different outcome. Again, I'm not taking anything away from the Gators. They are obviously a strong, physical, talent packed team that deserved to win the game. If the Bucks 3pt shooting was on like it has been all year, they outcome could have been different. Besides, we all know it was the layoff between their last game and the national championship game that did the Bucks in. Maybe if they didn't have to wait 2 days and a WHOLE GAME longer that the Gators did....

[/ QUOTE ] For sure. The 3-ball has carried them all year and they just didn't hit any of them. I think Florida's 3-2 zone was killer though. I've never seen a team defend the perimeter so well. Where the heck was Ron Lewis anyway, talk about not showing up.
