How many using .45's?

Plan to dust off my old CVA Hunterbolt Magnum in .45 for whitetail next season. Haven't use it at all for 5 years. Two questions:

When I bought this rifle 6 years ago, .45 cal rifles seemed to be all the rage. Now they are not offered at all by some vendors. What happened?

My accuracy with a 275 grain powerbelt is poor. Need to work up a load, I know. Figured I'd try a lighter 225 grain hollowpoint powerbelt, starting at 80 grains Pyrodex RS and work up. Is a 225 grain .45 cal powerbelt hollowpoint a good choice for whitetail?

Re: How many using .45\'s?

Welcome to the group.

As for the Powerbelts, I have not had success with them shooting to my standards to use them on deer. Some here like them, I don't. I do shoot a .45 calibe Knight Disc Elite and it likes the 175 gr Dead Center sabot. I think my load is 125 gr of loose Pyrodex and it will shoot very under 1.5" at 100 yards.

I am debating about building a custom .45 caliber smokeless muzzleloader. I will shoot sabotless .458" bullets and it will be a very sweet long range elk wacker.

Paisley writes/sings 3 types of songs: Ballads, gospel and funny songs. He's written gems such as--it never woulda worked out anyway, I want to check you for ticks, I'm gonna miss her, Me neither.....

Here's a sampling if you want to listen.

Go start your own post if you want to talk about music. I asked a couple questions in good faith. Thanks to wtnhunt for at least sticking to the subject.

Way to tell it like it is!

When I started ML hunting I read the "chapters" pinned at the top of this forum. Lots of great info, and should get you started on the right tract. 275gr does seem a little heavy for .45 given that my .58 shoots the 295gr Powerbelt quite well.

Have fun working up your load.
