More FOC mumbo-jumbo

Ok.. After changing a few things around with my arrow setup, I think I have it down.

This is what the arrow was:

Raw tube weight - 218.05 gr

Lumenok - 24.7 gr

Shrink Fletch - 26.2 gr

Insert - 16 gr

BH/Tip - 100gr

For a grand total of 385.9 gr and a FOC of 8% and 6.43 gpp.

Now from what I have gathered, 8% is terrible for a hunting setup and that 12% is the magic number.

So according to the calculator I am using, in order to achieve an FOC of 12%, I have to ditch the lumenok and shrink fletch.

Here is what the arrow setup will be now:

Raw tube - 218.05 gr

Nock - 9gr

Blazer Vanes ( 5gr/each ) - 15gr

Insert - 16 gr

BH/Tip - 100gr

For a grand total of 358.05 gr, an FOC of 12% and 6gpp.

I don't want to switch to 125 gr heads or shoot Lumenoks and the Shrink Fletch anymore. The Shrink Fletch is garbage. I thought it was a really good idea, but it is by far the worst fletching product I have ever used when it comes to durability. One bad shot and they crack off the shaft. I called the company and they tried to tell me that I didn't have it on right, but trust me, I couldn't pull the thing off the shaft if I pulled my hardest, but one bad shot and the thing went flying off.

So now I guess I have to buy some Blazer Vanes and do it myself unless someone would like to do them for me? grin.gif

Anyway, do I have everything down correctly and will this setup work for deer, bear and turkeys?

Squirrly...

you seem to have grasp on this end of it. if you show as much passion and interest into the other aspects of your shooting and bow setups, im sure you will be busting nocks very soon.

again the bottom line is shooting them once you have your setup close. this will give you peace of mind that your arrow setup is pefect. now you can turn your complete attention to other things.

Shoot Strong

Re: More FOC mumbo-jumbo

Total arrow weight matters with FOC.

In general if your total arrow weight is over 600grs 8% FOC is just fine. But I certainly wouldn't want to see any lower. The closer you get to 350grs the closer you need to be to 12%. Exceeding that is really hard to accomplish but I wouldn't worry too much if you do. With a 358gr arrow 12% is a good target.

Do measure what the actual FOC is after you put together a new arrow. FOC calculators are just estimates it's good to know what it really is.

Looks like somebodies been doing their homework. grin.gif

Just out of curiosity, what whent wrong with the shrink fletch?I have 6 arrows with the Extreme flecthings that I've been shooting in league and have probably shot each arrow through my whisker biscuit 80 or 90 times and haven't had any problems.

SH, your doing great as Tony said earlier and that setup will be great for deer, bear and turkey's. My Arrow weight 360 grains and it blows right through them. If you lived closer, I'd be glad to fletch your arrows I love the blazer vanes, they are one tuff fletching and stabilize my broadheads out perfectly.

Squirrel, I would think that a person like you who has done some work, reasearch and has shown his expertise, could EASILY do his own fletchings if he had the tools, and a little self confidence with the job. Go ahead and do it, and then let us all see pics. I bet they turn out great.
