NEIOWAARCHER
Re: mushroom time is here, picture included The best way i have ever eaten small grey's is to rinse the inside well. Then fill them with EASY CHEESE. (The kind in the can.) Roll them in batter or flour and deep fry for about 30 seconds to 1 min. Watch out cheese may be HOT. Enjoy. Randyman
Re: mushroom time is here, picture included Nice find! I'm sure this cold weather will slow them down. I plan on going out this weekend. Even if i don't find any, it'll be a good excuse to spend some time in the woods. Here is a cool website for keeping up with when and where Mushrooms are popping up www.morelmania.com Just use the sightings tab.

Guest Huntergirl
Re: mushroom time is here, picture included Wow, I am in Iowa and it will be a couple of weeks until they get started. I cant wait to cook some of them up. What part of Il do you live in? I have been lurking on some other sights to see where they are popping up at. I can see you have some!! I guess I will just have to wait.
brownie65
Re: mushroom time is here, picture included I am in Pike County. It is West Central Illinois. Yes it is cold. Too cold right now. My boy is wanting to go but it is pretty cold. We probably will go though. After finding that batch last night I hate to miss out. By the way, those were found under 2 different trees. The small ones will probably get cooked in a skillet of butter & seasonings. Some of them will go in scrambled eggs. Later when I start finding a bunch they will get rolled in flour & fried & I started making a awesome mushroom soup a couple years ago. It is pretty early here yet. I usually just go out about this time, have a place where I usually find them early. In a couple weeks it should be pretty good. We do need it to warmup. If it does warm up(with warm nights) it should be a very good year. Have plenty of moisture. I am very familiar with the morel mania site. Very good site. There are a couple good ones out there. I have some friends that are real big into mushrooms. They live up north but they start down south & work their way up with them. They camp out on my place. Have a big tent they put up & stay for a few days. It is pretty neat. They are involved in several of the sites & organizations. The wife of the couple has been a past winner of the state mushroom championship. They have a traveling mushroom museum which is pretty neat. Mushrooming have to love it. There are a few things I look forward to every year. Baseball season, deer hunting & mushrooming.

brownie65
Re: mushroom time is here, picture included I emailed some pics to a buddy of mine in Michigan. That is what he said that he was still getting snow. I hope we are done with that & it gets warm & stays warm.
