Re: Do trout bite in cold weather?

If your fishing creeks or streams for the most part the cold weather will not be affecting the water temp much, and if anything will make the fishing better. Trout are cold water fish and the colder the better. All the creeks and steams I fish are spring fed and stay basically the same temp all year around. Whether doesn't affect alot. I would stick with what your catching them on, they will bite.

They will bite.......or try to anyways. grin.gif One time I was fishing a small stream in December, I think it was. This brookie in the 10"-12" range kept chasing the bait but he couldn't manage to get it in his mouth for some reason. He'd roll clear on his side and try to take it in the corner of his mouth, too. Just could not connect. It was pretty funny to watch. I don't think you'll have any issues getting some trout. Lots of times we were catching them and cleaning ice outta the guides. wink.gif

My biggest trout (a 26" cutthroat) was caught when the lake still had ice in the middle. I have all of my best trips in the cold. Try to slow down your presentation. In lakes, jigging is often effective in cold weather because the bait spends a lot of time in front of the fish. In streams I like to use a small floating rapala reeled slowly over deep pools.

good luck
