SaskSniper
Hey guys! Not sure if you remember me, I used to come on here all the time. Might remember I would often put my drawings on here. But I moved away to assist my uncle out at his taxidermy shop. So I havent been on here in a while. Actually my account was deleted lol. So now I'm back to a fawn, shoot lol. Just thought I would fill you in on whats been goin on. Like I said I worked for my uncle at his taxidermy shop. I was his assistant and I had a bunch of things to do. Mostly preparing capes for him to mount. So like cleaning, tanning and I did some fleshing. Did whitetail, mule deer, moose, elk and antelope capes. Also had to cape animals that guys brought in, make panel mounts and lastly antler carvings. These antler carvings were pretty cool. My uncle was doing them and he convinced me to give it a shot knowing I did a lot of drawing of deer and all that. So I tried it out and they turned out pretty good. I ended up doing a lot of them. Including custom pieces. Like guys would bring in pictures of bucks, etc that they had taken and I would carve them into a moose antler. Ill post some pics of a few I have done. My uncle also let me mount a couple bucks I had taken(pics in the taxidermy forum). I learnt a lot and it was great. Combining my love for hunting and a job was awesome. Being out there I also got to hunt a lot more. So there was a lot of time spent in God's creation. Lots of adventures, one of which was taking another bull elk and being on that high then the next morning having our tent burn down.....haha ya i know, crazy! we have video of both events. here is a link to a video my buddy made of his highlights from the hunting year, including the bull elk we shot and the fire... . I also got into competitive archery. Had a lot of fun with this. I was able to go to a bunch of different shoots here in Saskatchewan and definitely love it. Of course I also went out hunting with my bow but I wasnt able to harvest anything with it. Definitely want to get out there again tho. Well thats my update haha, I hope to be on here a lot more once again. Take care you guys. SaskSniper
Re: I\'m backkk Hey Buckee, thanks a lot . It depended on the size of the antler and if you provided me with you own antler or not. But from $150 for a smaller one up to $300 usually. buckee
Re: I\'m backkk Good deal. Did you use a dremel tool? and what did you use to put the colour on? I have a moose antler in the shed, I'd like to do something with, but haven't decided yet.
SaskSniper
Re: I\'m backkk ya i use a dremel tool and depending how far down you go you get different shades. to do some addtional shading i just use a plain ol' pencil crayon, works like a charm. when i start i use a white pencil crayon and free hand a basic outline on the antler. then i start carving and keep going into more detail.
