dg
I'm just wondering. Because I vowed when I had a dog, then I would afford a fence to let it run (which I do). I have this neighbor that keeps a dog tied up day after after day. That ignorant should't have it if it can't take care of it properly. That's dang cruel IMHO to keep a dog tied up continually. Then why have it?
unioncountyslayer
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? Have 3 boxers that are spoiled rotten inside dogs. I built a nice fence for them to run around in and do their "Business". But they stay inside 99% of the time. I don't see the logic in buying a dog only to tie it up to a tree either. Cruel and heartless in my opinion as well.
arrow32
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? Our dog is inside 98% of the time when he aint in he is outside running around. He knows the yard limits and doesnt leave them so we dont have to watch him any. Do check on him to make sure he isnt out of it.lol Somtimes he follows people. But I dont think tieing a dog up is to good either. Inless its a hunting dog but even then you get them out and use them. My uncles keep theres pinned up when not running them or whatever. buckee
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? We've always had dogs and cats. Never tied up our dog, but they were always inside with us, accept to go. The cat stays in the house exclusively.
Guest bruteshooter
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? 3 German Shepherd Dogs, 1 Pomeranian, 1 Rottie. ALL house dogs. In much of the time and running free (within the bounds of the underground electric fence). Wouldn't have it any other way. Our neighbor is your neighbors cousin I think. He has a fence like ours but the poor thing is always hiding in her "make shift plywood box" with the big cable tied around her neck. It SUCKS. Guest Andrea
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? The only reason I tie up my dogs is because our fence is down due to the construction of our house. And even then....I only tie them up when I leave. We have a kennel but they have figured out how to climb out. ( Need a roof over it) The little dogs stay inside the house.
Tom2008
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? I have two little rat terriers and I could not imagine a leash on them constantly. We have a huge yard for them to run around in and they sure as heck use it. When I say run I mean run. They are always chasing each other and playing constantly. I find it just as cruel to tie up a dog as all of you do.

Michiganbowhunter_SQ2
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? ours is tied up whenever he goes outside...either someone walks him around (mostly during the winter) or he gets put on a chain. running around the house is fine, but if we were to let him go outside untied, he'd be off and running, he'd come back eventually, but we live on a busy street, wouldn't want him running out into traffic. Guest IL_HuNtIn_KiD
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? ours are in the house alot and we let them out on the chain for a half hour or so every couple hours so they can do their "business" then its back inside

wtnhunt
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? Used to keep our dogs in a pen, pretty good sized fenced in area. Only have one dog now, she would not stay in the pen, ended up putting her on a trolley where she has a pretty good area to run, think she actualy has more room than she had in the pen. We let her loose to run at least once a day. The trolley lets her run in the yard some unlike a chain.
MUDRUNNER
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? Our dog has about a 30' chain that we keep him on in the back yard.He is outside on nice days, but mostly he's in the house. He's probably inside about 70% of the time. It's definately not good to keep a dog tied up all the time, but I don't see nothing wrong with leaving them tied out for an hour or two. AdvantageTimberLou
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? My wife does not like seeing dogs chained up. Her response is why even have it as a pet if it has to stay outside locked up. We have spolied boxers that are kept inside but do run outside as I have fenced in the backyard with a 6' high chain link fence. Cost some money but they can run and be free and wear out some of that energy they build up. Hate seeing a dog just chained up and nobody paying attention to it. Then if you look closer you see where it just circles its area and wheres out the ground from its constant pacing. Not sure if you ask me. What if your bossed chained you to your desk day in and day out, wouldn't be fair would it?
stevebeilgard
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? our dogs (don't have one now) were trained not to leave the yard, and didn't. my neighbors have a electric fence around their yard, and their 2 dogs stay put. no chains
RangerClay
Re: Who owns a pet dog and keeps it tied up? I have a dog, a golden retriever and she is a house dog. If she has to pee, she has a 50' rope and that is all she needs. When I am outside with her she runs loose, but refuse to let her run free without my supervision. There is too much trouble she can get into. My mother in-law said I am cruel to keep my dog tied up but her dogs have been hit by cars, sprayed by skunks, chased deer, rolled on God knows what, and have spread their seed to the local females. I have responcibility to keep my dog safe so she stays on the rope. I exercise her everyday with a frisbee or a ball to keep her in shape.
