Huntress
I have read in several posts that you guys use and trust homemade trail cams... Can you give me the details of how to go about making one? What kind of cost am I looking at?? We were in Bass Pro yesterday and I was looking around but before buying one, was going to check into each, glad I saw this first! Thanks! wtnhunt
Re: Homebrew Cameras?? Using sony p32 or p41 cams for my setups, and pixcontroller boards. My cams range from $150 to a little over $200 invested in them total. The nicer cams I have built are 4.1 mp cams and trigger pretty fast, have a external switch, and have a feature called trail mode. You can check out pixcontroller for more information including trail cam building tutorials and forums with tech support and discussions. wtnhunt
Re: Homebrew Cameras?? You can build cheaper units, I like the sony cams, the two models I mentioned have become somewhat of rare commodity on ebay and have been for some time. Some of the other cams out there that can be used, can be found considerably cheaper. Figure about $100 for your kit if you go with a universal kit, then whatever the camera you get costs you. If you are looking to keep your cost down, you could also opt for the leII kit, which is about $80 or so. They are not tough to build, and you end up with a camera that will easily outperform any commercial cams out there.

Easy to do, better quality pics than both my leaf river and Non Typical Deer cam. Depending on what you can get the cameras for you add approx $100 for a case and pixcontroller kit. Try it out, you won't be disappointed. Good luck. Here's a pic of my first Homebrew. Its a Sony P-32 with Pix Universal kit with trailmode. I love it. The P 41 is just as easy with a little bit better resolution seeing it has more megapixels. [image][/image]
bowhtr1
Re: Homebrew Cameras?? I go to hagshouse.com for most of my camera building. I do check out the other web pages listed above also. I may use some things from one and some from another site. When I ask questions I go back to hags. Good luck and plan on making several because you cant make just one. toddyboman
Question [ QUOTE ] [image][/image] I have an older 35 mm camera that has this same set up as in this picture. With the telephone looking wire coming out of the camera and plugging into that phone jack. So can I convert my 35mm setup to it to a digital setup. My idea is get a digital camera install that telephone wire to the digital camera plug it in and now my trail camera is digital vs the old 35 mm. I hope this makes sense. Todd, you can get the shutter cables from pixcontroller for the sony p32 and p41 cams if you wanted to go that way. There are several other cams that would work too, might have to solder to the boards inside the cam on them though. Pix uses the phone cables with their unversal boards, dont know if the older boards used phone cables or not, but the le boards do not use the phone cables. With whichever cam you get, think you would probably have to change out your chip on the board so it would control the digital camera. I'm not sure the older board uses phone cable either just what they look like. This older 35 mm camera we have is a great set up. It has a really good trigger speed take good pics. But its 35 mm and thats no fun now that we have other digital. I thought I could maybe upgrade it to a digital but maybe not... I didnt think about the board being able to control the digital camera or not. Hhhhmmmmm..... Guess if and when I decide I better just buy everything and make one from scratch. wtnhunt
Todd, take a pic of the inside of the camera and shoot it to me in a pm if you want. If it is a pix board, I can find out for you, or you might want to check out the pix forums yourself at pixcontroller.com.
