Guest ronin
Hornady and Thompson seem to have collaborated very well on the Hornady SST also named the Thompson Shockwave. There are quite a few bullets that work great in the Thompson...actually almost every brand I tried worked good. The Hornady, however, seems to be made for the Omega, IMO. Try it and see what you think.
David_218
Re: T/C Omega loads [ QUOTE ] I was just wanting some opinions on the best loads to use in my omega for whitetail hunting. [/ QUOTE ] I bagged two Deer with my Black Diamond .50 cal. using 90.0 Grains (Volume) of FFL "777" and .452" 250 grain saboted bullet. Got them both in the neck @ 90 yards using T/C's Factory Peep Sight.

I bought a box Shockwaves and a box of SST's to try out this year. I have an Encore and both of these bullets are no doubt the hardest things I've ever tried to stick in any hole. I don't think I'm alone on this one either. I've read many forums and the loading problems associated with these sabots/bullets. My brother shoots an Omega. Trying to load Shockwaves he did a number on his ramrod. My Encore If I can get them to start the first couple inches with the short starter they will go down but its a challenge. Once down, I will admit they shoot pretty good. Upon reading in these forums people recommend using Harvester sabots with the SST/Shockwave bullets. I bought a box and they are right they do load easier as the petal of the sabot are thinner. I haven't had them out for accuracy yet. Just seems like a bad situation when you buy a bullet and sabot in a package then have to s**t can the sabots and buy replacements to make them loadable in your gun. I don't know how T/C missed the boat on this one. Until they get right I'll stick with the Precision Rifle QT40's .
Guest DaHunter
Re: T/C Omega loads Well i use a 348 grain HP power belt with 150 grains pyrodex powder, i love this combo!. You should give it a try i just loaded my omega with this out of the box and started shooting dead on. I never moved the sight or nothing, and it just levels deer. I bought a number of Shockwaves that loaded real well and when I ran out I bought some current production that were erratic. Some were hard to load and some were ok. They shot equally erratic. I went from nice 1/2" groups to 2+ with what should have been the same product. As a result I used another bullet that I had tested but deemed too expensive for use. I'm looking for another bullet again to find one cheaper.
Guest ronin
Re: T/C Omega loads I've never had that much trouble loading them and I've tried several manufactured lots of both the Hornady and Thompson version. I've even shot the new stemmed version...forgot the name. Anyway, same results everytime. I guess the bottom line is: Go with whatever makes your boat float.
