Randy
I have a Dual Pro XL now with 6 amps per bank. i have a 24 volt system. I'm wondering if I go to a more powerful charger will my batteries go bad faster. I have heard that the higher rate of charge is hard on your batteries. I need to get a full charge over a short night and right now i'm not getting it. Any suggestions are appreciated.

[ QUOTE ] I'm wondering if I go to a more powerful charger will my batteries go bad faster. I have heard that the higher rate of charge is hard on your batteries. [/ QUOTE ] Not true. Any of the onboard chargers that are designed for lead-acid batteries will work correctly with your trolling motor batteries as long as the charger shuts off (or better yet goes into a float charge mode) when the batteries reach full charge. Battery life is determined by the total number of charging cycles and the amount of time a battery spends discharged. The worst thing you can do is wait several days or weeks after you use the batteries before you recharge them. The quicker you recharge, the longer they will last. Even during the off season, when you're not using the batteries, you should still hook up the charger at least once a month and bring them back to a full charge to help prolong battry life. Randy
Re: Question with on-board chargers?? Hey thanks. What brand charger would you recommend, and how many amps would you get?
Texan_Til_I_Die
Re: Question with on-board chargers?? I've used both the DualPro and the ProMariner brands. Never had any problems with either unit. Typically I'd say either a 10 amp or 15 amp per bank unit would be best for most trolling motor batteries.
