NY911Bowhunter
What do you feel about making the location on the profiles a mandatory field? At least list the state! Petty I know - but frustrating!

NYBUCK
Re: Profiles I hear ya Dan, sometimes you read a real good post and you say "Hey where is this guy from" and you look and there is nothing in the location. I agree.
HuntingInMaine
Re: Profiles I think it should stay as it is....that's a personal decision if an individual wants to share where they live. With the weirdos on the internet, a lot of people are hesitant to add much personal information. And if you really want to know where someone lives, all you have to do is ask! VermontHunter
Re: Profiles Hmmmmm. I don't see where atleast the state, would reviel a persons specific location is. I think this would also help Mods. on post where iffy topics might be legal or not. For instance if I was to post "I spotlighted deer last night" this activity is NOT legal in Vermont but might be in another state. popgun
Re: Profiles I'm afraid I must disagree with you on this. Many of our members have revealed their real names on this forum from time to time, and many of them are not common names like John Smith. The white pages on the Internet gives addresses and phone numbers with only a name and state. If you know the name and state you can find out the rest easy enough, especially for those members with uncommon names. This is such a strange and crazy world we live in today, and I don't think the members anonymity should be compromised even a little bit, even though everyone knows I am from the Razorback State. .....popgun
VermontHunter
Re: Profiles popgun you bring up a very valid point, But let me lay this one on ya... You first would have to have the first and last name of that individual in order for that senario to work. I did a search in my name which is not common in the very manner of which you speak of and could not find a listing for myself, I then used a name of a person I work with that has a common name and also came up empty handed. This is not to say that if a person was to search hard enough or long enough that he/she wouldn't come up with something.. As for disagreeing that's why it's a forum and respect your argument.... popgun
Re: Profiles Somehow, if I remember correctly, Administration has all the information they need when we registered. jerdanmagic
Re: Profiles I say that its a great idea!!! I think that it would be stupid for someone to try to track down a person on here for a bad reason. We all are hunters which means we all have weapons!!! If you go to a hunting website to look for victims, I'd say you are lookin in the wrong place!!!LOL!!!
Steven
Re: Profiles Seems that most everybody already has their state listed and a majority have the actual city. LifeNRA
Re: Profiles I agree with Linda, if the person wants to stay invisiable let them! Too many idiots out here on the net trying to gain info on you! For years being on the net, I have never once posted a pic of myself. NEVER posted a pic of my daughter or any other family member! Now since being here I posted a pic of myself, but I will never post family members. The internet is still not a safe place. That includes this forum, because the public can still come here as they wish. To gain info on you, or to just read and learn! Maybe for adminatrative purposes only, yeah. But not for general public. That way they big guys have the info they need if they need to!!! JMO!!!
Nut
Re: Profiles State of mind is what I care about since mine is so messed up. Yep the ones that usually do not put their state or province down are the ones that just usally spam or troll. Some are good but are not good at filling out the blanks. There is no way I would let a child of mine on a forum where our location was required public information. I know you are all hunters and in a perfect world we would not have to worry about anything. But this is far from a perfect world. While I know the vast majority of you are great folks, it only takes one pervert to ruin a child's life. If your like me and have pictures of your family posted on here it takes that long to find out where you live. I don't know if either of these are you, but I don't think the forum should make it this easy to find someone. billygoat
Re: Profiles Guess, I am on the fence on this one... Really doesn't have anything to do with the forum... rather with the individual. I guess I was raised in an environment where trust was a big factor, and I view RT forums as that of a place I can share my thoughts and ideas and not a place where individuals are out to get me... If an individual has a different perception of people (especially in todays times), they should be able to keep that info private. On the flip side, it is difficult to make an unbiased oppinion, or an educated response, to an individual if you cannot identify the "sub culture" they come from. Also, as previously stated by VermontHunter... how can we respond to illegal acts if we don't know their local laws?

All I was pointing out was that if the names, and the state that you are from is the issue and think that you are safe by disclosing either, you a sadly mistaken because if the individual wants to take the time to go to that effort there is a such thing as "HACKING" and I'm sure Realtree's server can be hacked as any other site server. So I don't see the realative harm in making your state known, as I see it if your last name isn't listed in the profile I would think that it would be rather hard for someone to do a name trace let alone a state trace for that particular individual....
