Models All In Agreement for Major Storm

Wednesday, April 11, 2007

It's amazing to me that all the model runs were in agreement that a major

storm is coming this weekend. You can only imagine my excitement level, In

any case, its time to pull out all the stops.

EURO Confirms Major Destructive Storm Sunday

Wednesday, April 12, 2007

I just looked at the new EURO model, and it also shows the major storm along

the East Coast Sunday. It takes the storm from Oklahoma to eastern

Tennessee, then explodes it into a sub-980mb low along the Jersey coast.

Folks thats as stong as a Hurricane!! The Euro is much stronger with the

storm and will linger in almost the same location for about two days.

Now, the implications for a long-duration storm along the coast can be one

that will be classified as destructive. Why...

1. It will produce very heavy wet snows to 36 inches across all Pa. and Ny.

State, which will cause major tree damage and power outages.

2. Strong winds along the coast will cause tidal surges and beach erosion.

3. Severe weather Friday through Sunday could be quite extensive. Storms

that are about to explode into major storms are normally associated with

intense upward motions and strong jets that can lead to intense squall lines

with wind damage, hail and tornadoes.

The type of storm we are talking about could theoretically be a

billion-dollars-in-damage type of storm.

More later.

Re: You Got To Be Kidding Me!!! Major Storm!!!

They say that a nasty northeaster is heading up the coast towards us. We have our lobster gear out in the Atlantic, I am really hoping that it doesn't get bad because it could really damage our gear if it does frown.gif

Our lobster season closes on May 31, April and May are suppose to be good months for catches, since the ocean temps start to warm up which causes the lobsters to start crawling after being somewhat dormint for the cold winter months, but a major storm will hurt us bad frown.gif

Re: You Got To Be Kidding Me!!! Major Storm!!!

John, I'd check the credibility of that. Even up here in Massachusetts they are not saying all that. Most areas are only going to get rain. Some areas where it is cold, may get some snow. I doubt 36 inches though wink.gif

Here is an excerpt from Channel 27 news in Harrisburg...

[ QUOTE ]

The storm system that brought a soaking rain to the Midstate Thursday continues to move northeastward this evening, taking the shower activity with it. High pressure will build over the region Friday, providing a break from the rain, at least for a day. Then all eyes will look toward the Mississippi Valley where low pressure is forecasted to strengthen, move to the Mid-Atlantic coast, before intensifying and moving northward along the New Jersey and New England coast on Sunday and Monday. Based on current forecast guidance, we expect rain to move into our region Saturday evening and stay with us for Sunday and Monday. There is some indication that enough cold air will be drawn into this potentially powerful storm to convert the precipitation into wet snow, with some accumulation. With the storm this far away, details are somewhat sketchy, but it would be prudent to stay tuned to abc27 for forecast updates as we get closer to the weekend.
