huntinguide
Here are some picks of the bird i shot today with my bow. I skinned the whole bird out so i can make a decoy, and once i got the skin off i couldnt believe how small they really are. This bird wasnt small either he weighed 22 lbs. I was using muzzy 100 grains Heres where my arrow went in.... Heres the exit hole... And heres i pic of the bird next to a soccer ball, i guess if you can hit a soccer ball your ok.... Jeramie
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** I think that holds true with pretty much any bird! They have a lot of padding....
BKE
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** I'm trying to figure out the shot. Looks like it entered just in front of the right thigh and exited to the back side ot the left one. Did the BH get any of thew vital area? How far did he go? Congrats, I hope he's slow roasting in the oven.

Turkeygirl
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** It will be tasty though, congrats! Looks like your bird has strutted off all his fat and such. Fall birds are more plump, spring gobblers though I find have thinner breast from running all around. Nothing compared to a store turkey breast but you know what, wild is healthier and a whole lot better tasting! Usually when I clean my bird, I lose about 5 pounds which is guts and feathers. Huntress
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** Thats something... Like I said in my other post, I am having a hard time with shot placement. I've never shot at any thing but the head so I'm worried I won't hit vitals on my bird. Could someone post a picture of a turkey and give the shot in relation to your shot on the cleaned bird? Thanks, Marijane
huntinguide
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** he fell DRT flopped a little, got the back side of the vitals, spine, left femur he wasnt going anywhere.
Huntress
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** Huntingguide, Where did you shoot? I understand where it hit...I must sound like a dummy...just trying to figure it all out. People have told me shoot at the wing. Does that mean where the long wing feathers start or in the middle of them?
huntinguide
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** heres a pic of some jakes we had in the other day. This is from the otherside but about the same angle. You need to get as much bone as anything, and if you hit too far foward youll hit all breat meat and say bye bye. I say alittle back is better, but that just me.
Huntress
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** Thanks...have you ever had to shoot on when he was struttin'? I know they should come out of strut if you yelp/cut at em a few times quick but what if they don't? Will the shot placement be different when they are all fanned out? huntinguide
Re: How Small A Turkey Body Really Is**BLOOD** mine was in 1/2 strut you just need to use good judgement. Use the wings as a guide, The good stuff is right behind the wing joint or shoulder.
