Squirrelhunter91
Does anyone know of colleges that have biology programs? Not biology in the sense of medical, but more as in conservation and wildlife management and stuff like that? I am interested in becoming a biologist and right now I'm in my sophomore year of high school. I am realizing that I have to get signed up for classes to send me in the right direction for college and a potential career. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.. CDubWSR
Joe one school that you may want to look at even though it is nearly across the world from you is western state university of colorado. Its located in gunnison colorado which is 30 minutes a way from crested butte and nestled up right next to the gunnison national forest. I looked into it pretty hard because I wanted to either go into wildlife biology or firefighting for my career but ended up staying here in oklahoma and chose firefighting. The school has an excellent wildlife biology program and has alot of fun classes. I dont know about other schools but at western state you will get to take multiple two week long backpack trips into all the different eco systems of the western united states that you will be studying. I dont know how their wildlife department fairs as far as ranking, but I think it is in a great area for someone like yourself who likes to hunt and fish alot and still be able to do those things why your are at school. One of the counslers that came to my highschool here in oklahoma to visit me even told me that they have a program set up with the local police department where you are able to bring your guns and store them in the police department's vault and can go retrieve them whenever you want to use them. Hopefully some other people will be able to tell you about some other schools, thats just the one I really looked into when I was considering heading in that direction. Turkeygirl
The college I graduated from, Houghton College, has a Biology program and you can do Environmental Cons Biology. Also Alfred state college down here has a 2 year program in pre-environmental and then you can transfer to a school, I think it is up near Rochester, they call it ESF or something like that. Texan_Til_I_Die
It would be a long ways from home for you, but Texas Tech in Lubbock has an excellent program. Texas A&M also offers several programs of that type.
coles
The university of montana- western is a very good school of wildlife biology. only if you want to go out of state. check into it. it would be worth it and there is 2 major rivers to fish in just minutes from here. in fact alot of the kids here work for fly fishing guides. Squirrelhunter91
Being away from home wouldn't be a big deal to me. I fully understand that this career would take me out West.. but that's ok.. because I've always wanted to visit out there and hunt out there. I'm sure I could find some public land around wherever I go.
