Guest bowhunter56
what choke do you use and what shell, that gives you the best pattern out to 50 yards?
Hoyt03
I currently use the mossberg choke that came with the gun and shoot the cheapo winchester supremes and it does fine out to around 35 yards then gets a little more scattered. I've heard tons of good things about the comp n choke with the 835 guns. I plan on getting one soon.
MrWiggely
I use a Turkey Super Full Factory Style Choke from Cabelas EW-21-0873 order #913 Page 34 of the spring turkey Catalog. I also use federal Flight Control 3 inch number 6's Works very good for me, although I keep my shots to 40 yards or less, I do get 30- 50 pellets in the head neck at 50 yards. Guest bowhunter56
i have a friend that shot heavy shot yesterday, lousy pattern with jellyhead choke , wants to be able to kill them out to 50/60 yards
MrWiggely
With the combo I use your not supposed to use the steel shot through it. Tell him to get better at calling and setting up and there is no real reason to shoot that far. Or get a 10 ga. and his troubles will be over. Guest bowhunter56
i agree 50/60 yds. is long
MrWiggely
It can be done, but for me it kind of ruins my hunt. I don't think I ever shot a turkey farther than 20 yards, most were 10 or closer. Just adds to the excitement for me. Wigs
elnor
HS Undertaker H.S. with Win XT 3in #5 I use HS Undertaker H.S. and Winchester Extended Range 3 inch # 5s. That combo patterns well in my Moss 835 both up close (under 20 yards) and out far (40-50 yards). Proof here.
Adjam5
I have 2 835's and I use a undertaker choke in one with Winchester supreme 3" shells; and in the other 835 I use a ported Lohman .675 tube. I am good out to 40 yards with both guns and have not shot further than that. #5's in 3 1/2" are supposed to be long range turkey medicine. For me the 3 1/2" shells are just a bit much. I like getting the birds in close.
LifeNRA
I use an 835 with a Comp-N-Choke XXX Full tube, Winchester Surpreme's 3.5" #6 shot. Personally, 50-60 yard shots I would not make! Wind up just injuring that bird only to die a slow death. Call them in closer! 40 and under!

Outdoorzman
I use the HS Undertaker with Winchester Supremes in 3" #5's. That combo is deadly out to 35 yards but I find that a back-up shell in Remington hevi-shot does better at the 40-45 yd mark. That's an important point for all of us who might miss a close shot, (been there, done that), and needed a second when ole tom is a runnin'! Just make sure you have the right choke for hevi-shot loads, too. And in my opinion, we shouldn't try to shoot past 40-45 yds max, though if your gun does it, I guess it's a judgement call.
