redryder
Bought a salt block and a mineral block from thr local Rural king. Put them in a couple old salt licks. Added a little Block Topper. Hope the deer and other critters enjoy them.
wtnhunt
Activity has picked up quite a bit at our mineral site. Just put a trace mineral block out in it this last time. The deer are really digging hard where the trophy rock was at though.
dogdoc
it may take a little while for them to find it--mineral use can be very seasonal and hit or miss. If your deer need the minerals more than likely when they find it they will use it often--especially during spring and summer.
SoybeanMan
Trace mineral blocks I put out 5 yesterday 2 on one stand and 3 on another. Both stands are out in pastures in cover and I placed the mineral blocks at the edge of the timber. No stumps around, so I just put them on the ground. This is the first time I have put anything out on this particular farm. I did place them close to deer trails. I guess it doesn't hurt to put out more than they need, if I am competing with adjoining properties does it?
Guest anderson3
Soybean Man, If you are doing minerals/blocks/feeders, there are some good reasons for putting out multiple sites. First, it mathematically reduces close contact of the deer. This could reduce disease transmission risk, and also make it easier for deer to use it without so much social pressure from other animals. They use space as part of their pecking order and social structure, so deer are not really comfortable crowding in close, especially those from different bachelor groups or family groups. Second reason is it gives the deer more things to do on your property, and maybe gives that buck a couple more places to check for does this fall before he heads over the hill.
