Newarcher
Well, I got the dreaded call. I am a deadbeat, in collections....NOT. I have a collection agency harassing me for about the past 3-4 months about a debt. I don't owe it, I just happen to have a similar name to the real debtor, even the name isn't the same. I refuse to provide any information about myself, social (yeah right like I am giving that to anyone), birthdate, previous addresses, etc. So far, it has just been about 7 phone calls but has recently become more aggressive. Each time these bozos call...LTD Financial is their name....I tell them that their information is incorrect and that the only thing they have linking me to the debt is my similar, yet different name. Each time, they tell me they will update the record and I will not get any more calls. Easter Saturday, I received two calls at home...one at 8:09 AM and the other at 9:00 AM from this lady. Fortunately for her, I was shivering in a tent at the time and not home or else I would have probably lost my religion for a few minutes. Anyway, I returned the call telling her voice mail yet again that I was not the debtor. Then I called back and recorded the message I left on her voice mail. I also sent a certified letter in the mail, return receipt requested, telling them to bug off. Lastly, I filed a complaint with the FTC about this harrassment. I think this is the same guy that I received a call about at my previous home because he hadn't paid his student loan. Here is the sticky part. They received my letter on the 13th of April. However, they sent me a letter postmarked April 11th (the first actual letter I received) telling me that I owe the debt and that if I don't respond, they will consider it valid. Since my letter arrived after theirs, I should be covered. I called the lady collecting the debt this morning and asked her if she had a problem reading, understanding, or if she was just plain stupid. She indicated that the debt had been taken completely out of the system and that my phone number and address weren't on the account any longer as a result of my letter. But then again, she told me several times that my information had been taken out of the system and I still received calls. What scumbags collectors are. By the way, this is the number one reported issue to the FTC right now is collection agencies finding someone with a similar name and harassing them until they pay. Sometimes, they catch someone who is eager to close a home loan or some poor old person who isn't all with it and they extort the money from the non-debtor. My plan is to call her once a day, every day just to annoy the heck out of her for about the next 4 months. Just call to check in and make sure that they have taken me out of the system and read her the riot act. I sure wish that my buddy who does skip tracing could find out her personal home telephone number, I would call her about 6 am one Saturday morning to tell her that she has the wrong guy! I hope they call again or write again....I just hope so. New
Texan_Til_I_Die
I feel for ya'. A couple of years ago I started getting these strange calls on my answering machine from some collection agency saying I had an unpaid bill with some company I had never done business with. It took me about 2 months to make those idiots finally realize they had the wrong person. I finally told them that I would file an harassment complaint with my local DA if they so much as THOUGHT about calling me again. That must have gotten their attention because the calls and letters stopped immediately.

Bowtech_archer07
I feel for ya too. I've never had collections agencies call me, but telemarketers calling me at dinner time, or any time for that matter, really ticks me off. Hope things turn out OK for ya! AJ
I hear ya New, but look at the scum bags they deal with, deadbeatpieces of crap that don't pay their bills. If they stopped just because someone said "Hey, I am not the guy you want." they would not get very far in business. It's assuming you are guilty until proven innocent.
