Well been in my new place for almost 2 months...and I guess I'm still getting use to being further away from all the shopping areas.....I'm only 4 miles away from stores...like walmart, gas stations,....video renting places,.Dicks sporting goods and you know all those important stops...hee....hee. Everything seems so far now....when before I could ride a bike to these places.....we are in a new development and got 16" of snow and nobody will come in to plow.....so my wife is stranded with cabin fever and 2 wheel drive only....anyhoo I was wondering how far away your guys live from stores and such as mention above....?? I guess I am really a city boy who loves the country and do like my backyard deer hunting......thats the trade off huh ?? Again how far away are ya from the nearest shops and how often to you go in to the city ?

Re: Country living.....

my situation sounds a lot like yours bozz.

i grew up in the city, lived in the city all my life until my wife and i bought our 5 acres in Licking county, and have been living in the country since 1994. my wife was born and raised in the country, so she's used to the remoteness.

given the two--city or country living--no brainer, country all the way. i can walk right out my back door and hunt rabbit and pheasant, and one of these days, i'll actually kill a deer back there.

to answer your question: the nearest little town is Johnstown which is about 5 miles away. it has a big Kroger, a Mc'd's and just recently a Wendy's, but that's aboot it. sunbury is 6 miles away, but the only thing there that i need is the mail.

columbus is about 20 minutes away to the west.

Re: Country living.....

The closest Wally World or Target or just about any big name store is about 25 miles away. We live in a small town of about 2200 people. I am excited because we are getting a Pamida. After 5 years of wanting to live in the Twin Cities, I am happy to be living in a small town near family.

Re: Country living.....

I grew up about 10 miles from town and loved it. I have been a towny since going to college and yearn to be able to go out the back door and not see another house. We are about 4 blocks from the nearest gas station 3 from the nearest church. I can go to any store in town incl. Wal-mart and 3 different groc. in less than 3 minutes.

On the down side the closest fishing and hunting is 25 minutes away.

My long term goal is to have about 100 acers at least 5 miles from town. That's where the hunting land starts. grin.gif

I live miles and miles from anything, except bars. grin.gif I wouldn't have it any other way.

Oh, to be a Wisconsinite! If there's not a bar here, drive over the next hill. grin.gif I live in a small town of 8000. My parents farm is three miles out of town, and all of the other farms I hunt are within 20 minutes... as is Walmart and Gander.

Re: Country living.....

We are less than twenty miles from a shopping (a couple of miles for groceries) store such as Walmart or Kmart. There are no Gander Mountain, Cabelas, Dicks or the like here frown.gif. With the exception of groceries, we go shopping maybe once a month, if that. I would rather read a book than watch a video, so video stores don't even count in my book. The best way to avoid cabin fever is to get out and enjoy the snow. Snow shoeing, skiing (either cross country or downhill), sledding, snowmobiling or just curl up with a good book and a cup of hot chocolate.
