woodshed
What do you guys do in this scenario? Your set up in a spot and don't hear gobbles and haven't seen any birds or at least none for a long long time. Your calling and calling but nothing is happening. Do you move and try something else or do you stay and keep calling and hope they are moving your way? This is assuming ideally your in a good location, just that it's slow. I had this happen today and just had a hard time leaving a spot I'd been calling for so long. I just kept thinking there was one comming possibly just to have me move on out and start over somewhere else. I ended up relocating and seeing a couple birds so it seemed to be a good decision. I just wanted to see what you all do. thanks
Outdoorzman
That's a tough one but for me, I call for a certain amount of time, then clam up completely and wait another designated amount of time in case a silent gobbler comes in, as they sometimes will. If nothing, I move.
MrWiggely
Its hard to say. If I do decide to move, I sit pat for about half hour with out making any calls at all before I do move. I have had birds gobble 20 minutes after I quit calling. Then when I call back they USUALLY come in on a string. After 30 minutes of no calling if I havent heard anything, I will get up and start moving, calling my way towards my next set up location. You never know when a bird will strike up a conversation with you. Wigs
Bowtech_archer07
The first bird I killed was a jake that started gobbling 3 hours after the last gobble we had heard. He came in with another jake and they gobbled in a bottom 3 hrs after the last gobble we had heard. After they gobbled, we yelped a couple of times and they came running in. I would stay put cause once a bird answers you, he will come and investigate sooner or later. Many times it is a lot later than sooner, but normally he will come. maytom
Before first light, if I don't hear any gobbling on their own, but know that there are birds in that set of woods, I'll set-up and cold call for 1 1/2hrs in one spot before moving to another area in the woods 100-200 yards away, and try it all over again. I'll hunt that particular woods until 8:30am. and if still no action, that's when I'll pack up and drive to another spot altogether. After setting up, I'll give out a series of calls for a 1/2 minute or so, then shut up for 20 minutes and keep my eyes peeled. Usually by the third set of calls, is when I get a reply or a bird shows up silently!! Patience and no movement is the key!!
woodsman2230
If I havent heard anything at all that day then I would move. But if I heard some on the roost I would probably wait and see if they came in silent.
ParsonsOutdoors
Seems like every time I get anxious and move, I spook turkeys. So now if I thing there's a slight chance of some being around - i stay put. JP
woodshed
yep, I moved today and spooked a gobbler. I should have been more disciplined. I couldn't stand it. But now, I really can't stand it!!
