njbowhntr
I am looking at a new barrel for my .243. I have found an awesome deal on a Shilen out of Brownells, $159 for a varmint contour. The rate of twist on the barrel is 1 in 14. I will be shooting a 58 gr. bullet, a max of 70 gr. bullet. Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
JimT
Re: Rate of twist for a .243 Not really sure what your looking for, but my Model Seven .243 has a twist of 9 1/8". Most Remingtons seem to have that twist.
AJ
Re: Rate of twist for a .243 You will be ok with 55 gr through 60 gr bullets. Once the bullets are going over 60 grains, you will need a 1:12" twist. Once you go over 85 grains, you need a 1:10" twist. To shoot some of the 106 gr VLD bullets, you will need 1:9" or 1:8" twist. David_218
Re: Rate of twist for a .243 Most .243's have a rate-of-twist of 1-10" twist. Your 1-in-14" twists should work very well with the weight of bullets you are using, under 80 grains.
