Turkeygirl
turkeys gobbling from if they are on the roost? Tomorrow morning I'm going to the boss' land in hopes of hearing some gobbles...and hopefully they'll still be there after the youth weekend this weekend. My boss just told me that his wife saw 3 turkeys yesterday, they came right in front of the house and on a diagonal across the road towards a field they have on the other side:eek: she couldn't tell though if they were hens or gobblers. Anyway that was around 4pm, I don't know if they have a roost over that way or not but where I'm planning to go in the morning is in the hardwoods behind the house, and it's on top of a slope/ridge...so I'm wondering if I could still here them if they happen to roost somewhere across the road? Should be a quiet morning but wondering how far any of you have heard gobbles?
Guest Huntergirl
Their gobble will travel a long way, if they are just across the road you should be able to hear them gobble. I would say you can hear up to or around a mile or so mabey more some times depends on how worked up they are. Good luck to ya.
sportsman2500
i would say depends on the lay of the land and the foilage on the trees. you could hear them raisinf the roof a longggg way!
toddyboman
You should be able to hear them fine. Have to agree with others depends on the terrain, weather and just how loud they want to be. Usually can hear them 1/2 mile to 3/4 away while on the roost.

This is true and some birds just gobble louder than others birds too. Also depends on where they roosted that day relative to the lay of the land. On a clear day with no wind and the ol boys are fired up you can hear 3-4 roost trees gobbling from one spot.
