proposed law in Texas

Will try to find a link later, but heard earlier today that Texas has a proposal for giving the death penalty to repeat offenders who prey on children. That is right the death penalty. If convicted offenders have more than one sexual assault on a child or multiple attacks on more than one child or are a repeat offender, under this proposal then they would qualify for penalties from life in prison on up to the death penalty. Hope they can pass it through and other states will follow and set an example and send a strong message to the sickos who prey on children.

Now William, we all know that child molesters are just as much a victim as the kids they assault. After all, I'm sure that most of their problems can be traced to a bad childhood. They were probably raised in some type of abnormal environment that caused their actions, like a strict Christian home, or they may have just been born that way like homosexuals. Heck, many of them may just be lashing out at this oppresive American society we're all forced to live in every day. And the fact that President Bush is..... well.... Bush, certainly doesn't help. But there's just no way it's that poor individual's own fault, so why should they be subjected to such cruel and inhumane punishment?

Man, if I keep practicing at it, I think I might make a good liberal some day! ;)

this looks good on the surface, and reasonable folks would agree with a law like that. but, to burst the bubble just a bit, what i really see here are 20 more years of appeals filed by highly paid attorneys....

Even if that is the case Steve, that beats the heck out of them getting loose to hurt more kids.

I sent a letter to my Federal and State Representative and Senators along with the Governor of Georgia demanding just that.

I suggested that a single time offender be given life for the really terrible stuff....violent rapes of children, aggrivated molestation, etc. I also suggested that anyone who kills a child in the commission of one of these lewd and forceful acts automatically be given the death penalty. I got no response from anyone about it. I was fed up during one of those strings of abductions and murders a couple years ago.

I think that the problem is two fold:

1) I think that we have some really sick twists leading this Country that could possibly be involved in child porn and might fear that they could someday be subjected to one of these laws. That's why I don't think we see the laws cracking down on child porn any more than we do.

2) I think that the remainder of our leaders consider this a law enforcement problem.

I think it is funny how the anti gun nuts can band together a group of doctors to declare guns an epidemic health crisis, using the number of children harmed/killed each year as their justification. However, by and large, there are a LOT MORE children ruined for life by pedophiles and we all now live under the fear of our children being abducted and/or raped by a pedophile and possibly killed.

Until we all get fed up with it and have a revolt among the voters over these issues, possibly sending our pet Senators and Reps packing for not acting, things probably won't change. What it will take is for a high profile child to be abducted and killed before any meaningful legislation is passed.

New, sending the local and state reps is a great idea. Will get something together and sent out here soon.

If Texas manages to pass this through, hopefully some other states will also follow. It is a shame that the death penalty is not even an option for murderers in some states, the Wisconsin shooter who killed hunters not so long back is a perfect example of one who deserved it and due to the system or lack of appropriate punishments available, justice there in my opinion will never be served.

It is really sad that the human rights activists who will face this in Texas with opposition just don't understand that the victims that these monsters harm have rights too. Those activists just don't get it. The innocent children that some of these pedophiles prey on, could be prevented in many cases if the law enforcement agencies and criminal justice systems would enforce EXISTING laws and give max penalties. There is no excuse for there being repeat offenders loose, EVER. Sad thing is that some of these repeat offenders and attorneys, who should be ashamed of themselves for what they do, see the holes in the system and after getting a slap on the wrist (some of the punishments for these crimes are a real joke:mad: ), they are let loose to continue on until for whatever reason they are unable to.

Under the proposed law in Texas, they would be stopped permanently one way or another if they were a repeat offender. Our children deserve this type of protection from these pieces of filth who in my opinion should get no less than the death penalty if it is able to be proven without a shadow of a doubt that they did in fact assault a child. Not to mention it would send the message when the media broadcasts that a child molestor is put to death that the punishments are serious.

I guess what I don't understand is how certain liberal people put the rehabilitation of a striking few of these pedophiles (I think there is a 90% recurrence rate in their crimes) above the rights of the children not to be raped. I just don't get it other than its pure rotten evil working both in the pedophile and the liberal. JMHO of course. If I had to lock every pedophile up for the rest of their days and take away the rights of the maybe <10% that would never repeat the crime versus letting one child get raped and killed by a repeat offender....welll, tough luck sally because you did it to yourself.

One of the things I echo in this forum a lot is the role of the individual. If everyone were to bow up and just tell their legislators that if they don't fix problem A and problem B, they will be kicked out of office, things would change. Look at most State legislators after the horrendous Kelo decision in the supreme court...most places put in force some strict restrictions on the use of emminent domain.

I just don't understand why there aren't more revolts in this country against our legislators who routinely ignore our needs and wants until and unless the issue blows up enough to cost them re-election. Time for term limits and taking the election of Senators away from the general public as the founding fathers intended.
