Sightron scopes

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a new a scope for my Encore. I want something with plenty of eyerelief. Seem like the two scopes with the longest are Leupold and Sightron. I'm for a 2x7 or 3x9. Does anyone have experience with Sightron scopes? Good or bad please let me know.

I think Santa (aka Me) grin.gif is going to buy me a late Xmas present once he decides what he wants.

Happy Holidays

Thanks

Re: Sightron scopes

Their customer service is ok. I have a Sightron SII on my ML. It started out on my Rem 700 ML and worked fine for a few years, then it gave up the ghost. It would not hold zero. I returned it and after a month and a half, they sent a new one to replace it. This one is on my Savage ML and so far it is holding up. Its only had a couple dozen shots so I can't say how the long term will be.

Re: Sightron scopes

Well, I gotta tell ya, if Sightron has the best eye relief, I don't wanna be your face. My dad has a Sightron on his ml, and 90% of the time when I shoot it, i get a nice smack in the forehead by that scope. It use to be on his 12 gauge, but I made him take it off after it smacked my eye 5 out of the 5 shots I took. I don't know which one your looking at, ours is an SI series 3-9x40. Just a little food for thought.

If you don't need much magnification, look at the simmons prodiamond shotgun scopes. They have a LONG eye relief, and are a very great scope, for little cost.

lil hunter, Don't take this wrong. I'm not setting out to question your shooting abilities.

You stated that you 90% of the time shot your dads guns you got smacked in the forehead, with both the muzzleloader and the shotgun. Does your dad get smacked in the forehead when he shoots his guns? If not it sounds to me a like the guns are set up to fit your dad. they may be slightly off for you.

We had a similar situation here a couple years ago. My dad has a Remington 1100 with A Redfield scope on it. He used to smack himself with that thing all the time. I would shoot it and not have a problem. It was just a matter of fit. I moved the scope up to optimize the whopping 3" eye relief for him and he hasn't had a problem since.

With the specs on the Sightron, if its set up for optimum eye relief for the shooter there shouldn't be any problems. If you can't get it to work give Sightron a call tell them your situation you may get a new scope out of it.

As far as the Simmons Pro-Diamond goes I'm looking to up the power from 1.75x4 to a 2x7 or 3x9 as the magnification goes up the eyerelief come down on that "Gem".

Re: Sightron scopes

I have to agree str8shooter48, I would say that if the gun does not fit, has too much recoil, or is not set up for the shooter, one can blame the wrong part. I have the 4-16x44 Sightron SII on my Savage ML. I have shot some serious thumping loads from it (250 gr bullet - 2600 + fps) and the eye relief was just fine.

All good with Sightron SII's. Don't waste your time on their SI models, they have dimmer glass, no RevCoat 7 coatings, no ExacTrac adjustment system. The SI's are just price scopes.

For the money, the SII's are amazingly good to my eyes. Whether 2.5 x 8 x 42, 3 x 9, or 4 x 12-- all the same tube.
