OJR
I just happened to turn on a "hunting" show that was on the Sportsman Channel! This place had different stations where 2 "hunters" stood and out from these stations, was a tower. From the tower a guy threw a pheasant up in the air and it would fly past these stations! Both "hunters" start shooting and blast this bird out of the sky! They have dogs to retrieve the downed birds and are bragging about this "hunting" experience! Have we lowered ourselves so low we let places like this be allowed to operate? The only website I got off of the TV was www.bintherehunting.com. I went to this website and it looks as if it is guided hunts for bird hunting! This whole thing makes me sick and MAD!!! How can an state allow something like this to go on! It was in Louisiana where this "club" is at and where the "hunt" took place! What can we do to stop this? You talk about giving a real sportsman/hunter a black eye! What next? unioncountyslayer
There is a similar type "hunting" place here in NC. Same concept, there are several tower stations where the birds are released and fly around this field that is heavily covered with "hunters". Everyone starts shooting until the bird is dead. I've been invited several times to go and have refused each time.
Guest okla_bowhunter
There are places here where people raise elk, then sell them for a guy just to walk out there with a rifle and shoot it. Then they take pictures(without the fence in the background) and talk about the thrill of the hunt. It makes me sick also. Where do people find joy in shooting a pened up animal? Why would you want to shoot a pened up animal? And how could you bring yourself to shoot something that will come five feet from you every time you shake the feed bucket? wtnhunt
What was the name of the show Orlan? Some of these shows are pretty sad, and unfortunately they paint a picture to non hunters that really does not help us at all.
OJR
I believe they called it by the "lodges" name and that was Bin There Hunting! Sick!!
Texan_Til_I_Die
Shooting of released birds, usually pigeons, used to be fairly common, but I thought it had faded completely out.
Tominator
Yeah, that doesn't seem too sporting to me. Sometimes that happens with pen birds too. They'll just sit there, and you literally have to kick them to get them to fly. Not much fun in that at all.
stevebeilgard
sounds pretty disgusting to me, too. i saw a show about 30 years ago, where ducks were loaded into a 6" duct, and blown out the end like a cannon. then, the hunters shot the ducks. i about threw up. so, this is nothing new, just something disgusting. terry264
I think that show is called "Redneck Adventures" if I remember right. Don't like that kind of "hunting" either,,,,,,,very unsportsmanlike in my opinion.
Randy
I believe there used to be duck "shoots" around here. They would release pen raised ducks torwards a pond and they would try to land in the decoys. Definately not my idea of hunting. I have however used pigeons for dog training. BuckNrut
If you really want to see this type of activity stopped, the key, it would seem, is edcation. Many people here at RT do not consider "trap shooting" as sporty (preaching to the choir), but the more people know about it, the less likely the activity would continue (IMO). Here in upstate NY we used to have such an operation. I believe the owner got "tired" of the "business" and found other things to do with his time. LifeNRA
I dont know what is worst, the people that have the business, or the people that go there! Both!!! Pathetic!!!
DU_man_84
i went on an upland hunt when i was younger in, that was ok, cause it was no fun to hunt cause you had to literally step on the birds to flush them, but i was told that they take the birds and shake them up in boxes before they release them, and they are so dazed they dont move, not really my thing
VTbowman
Its not hunting if your shooting at domesticated animals. Or "wild" animals that have been tamed enough to handle them by hand. Aren't those called pets...???? Sickening...
