Kinda bummed tonight

I stopped by my local Walmart tonight for something and I had to stop by the sporting goods section. When I arrived there were shopping carts full of gun boxes.

I said to the manager, "Having a bargain bin Chris?"

"Nope. They are going back to corporate. We are all done selling guns." He replied.

"WHAT! You said this store was keeping it's guns?" I exclaimed

"That's what I was told till this morning and now I have 24 hours to send them back. I was given no warning this was coming"

"Can you sell them on sale?" I asked again.

"I cannot. I can sell these guns and make money off them but they will not allow it. Instead they are making me ship them back to corporate and they will be redistributed. Plus my store has to pay the shipping. Go figure."

We talked for few more minutes about all of the paperwork and inventory he won't have to do anymore and I left. I was very depressed when I left because this issue finally hit home for me. One of the last things that was said was by an associate who was helping, "It is the end of an era." I could not agree more.

I know this WalMart and guns thing has been discussed to death here on the forums but I just wanted to vent a little. Thanks for listening.:o

Well, I wouldn't get too down about it. There will ALWAYS be PAWNSHOPS!!!!:D :D Wal-Mart's guns weren't the best anyway. They should let the folks who KNOW about guns sell the guns anyway. ;)

I agree but I hate to see anyone stop selling guns. Oh and BTW, we don't have pawnshops around here. Gunshops...yes but no such thing as a pawnshop. They are more of a southern thing.

this isn't about wal mart at all. it's about the anti hunters, and their voice of power. it's about us, the gun folks, not talking, not squaking. it's about the anti's with an organized protest, looking stronger although they are fewer. and, it will get worse because us hunters are weak. unorganized. and just wanting to go about our thing anomously. the anti's are relentless, and winning. wake up, or forget hunting.

Hmmmmmm................there sure were plenty of pawnshops in Philadelphia and New York City when I was there. Never knew there was a town that DIDN'T have one. That's kinda strange.

Our Wal-Mart still sells guns. But I don't see a lot of guys buying any there. They either buy them from pawn shops or Bass Pro or gun stores.

Wal-Mart's guns weren't the best anyway. QUOTE]

Andrea your mislead, the guns at Wal-Mart are no different than the guns sold at Bass Pro, Gander Mountain, Cabela's. or Mom and Pops gun shop. Not sure who told you they were not the best but they are not inferior guns!!

Do you honestly think a gun manufacturer such as Remington or Winchester would take a major risk in a sue happy society by selling 2nd rate guns to Wal-mart? A gun is a gun is a gun, no difference and many think their is. NO WAY!!!! Too big a risk to take.

They might not have the selection as the above mention stores but the quality is no different.

People forget, Wal-mart buys in huge volumes and that is why they can be lower in prices, its not for inferior type guns or 2nd hand stuff.

That sucks Joe! It sounds like a lot of them are stopping down there. I know they stopped up here probably 5 years ago. I'm not sure if anywhere in the Canada still sells them or not. I've been to quite a few here in eastern and southern Ontario and I haven't saw one yet that still sells them.

If every sportsman/woman would stop giving business of any kind to Wal Mart, maybe they would listen. In case no one has noticed, they are trying real hard to be like Target. More steps are coming to go in that direction, sit back and watch.

Personally, I am all for the return of the Mom & Pop stores of yesteryear.

That's too bad, I hate to hear that. As far as Andrea's comment, I believe she meant that they don't sell "top of the line" guns. I don't believe they sold the "A-bolts, Beretta's, Benelli's, and Red Labels ect... I'm sure they sold the Remington Express's but I don't think they sold the WingMasters. Atleast up here, I don't think they do. Just my 2 cents.;)

The e mail I got back from Walmart when I asked this question about 3 months ago was....

They are stopping selling guns in areas that have poor gun sales. I was told it was a sales strategy based on sale figures....That was alot of BULLDINKY.

This is all part of the "Dismantling of the Sportsman" Out and out anti-gun laws get beat back by us. So this is how the anti gun zealots will attack.

Just don't forget where Walmart and one of the most famous anti gun couple come from.

The same state...Arkansas. Does the word collusion mean anything to you?

I smell something.
