TKLambert
First off I apoligize if I have this is the wrong thread, because I was not sure where to put it and I need a response quick. My question is should I throw my backstrap out. i got it out of the freezer last night, it was completely frozen, around 9:30 and set it in the sink to thaw out so that I could cut it up because I left them whole. Well I "thought" that I put it back in the frig' but NO. When I came home from work today around 5:30 I found that I left it out over night and today. The meat was thawed and was room temp maybe a little less. i have it back in the freezer now until I figure out what to do with it. The house temp is around 70ish. My question is the meat still good or do you think the it has spoiled and could get someone sick???? Thanks for the help!!!
Hoosierbuck
I doubt too much bacteria grew in the hours it was fully thawed out. I would cook it and eat it unless it smelled or looked "off" to me. That's just me though. You do what you think is right, even if it means tossing an otherwise beautiful hunk of meat. wtnhunt
Heard the expression "when in doubt throw it out"? Would think it probably would be ok if you cook it thoroughly, but don't know for sure if I would eat it or not. Guess it would depend, obviously if it smells at all, it needs tossed. LifeNRA
I wouldnt eat it! Throw it out! Get a food saver! But this will not help if you forget to stick back in the frig!
3whunt
I would eat it. I have shot several deer in 60-70 degree weather and not found it until the next day. By the time I have it completely cut up it has been out for 24 hours or so. I know it ain't the same as sitting in the sink, but I think it should be ok.
