Turkeygirl
Got up this morning and went to sit on top of the gravel pit in hopes of hearing gobbles and fly downs. We had some rain and t-storm last night....was about 40 this morning and slight breeze...thought they'd be gobbling their heads off. All I heard were crows...thought I heard muffled gobbles behind me but not sure...could have been a woodpecker. I think I did hear some wing flapping about 6:20am from the direction I think they are roosting...and where I thought I might have heard gobbles. Can trees and hills make gobbles sounds farther away than they are? I think they may be roosting in some hemlocks down by an open swamp where I always see tracks... woodsman2230
Yes sometimes trees and hills can make gobbles sound farther away. I also noticed a decrease in gobbling. I went to my honey hole this morning and hear about 5 maybe 6 gobblers. I got a look at 3 of them. Two jakes and a huge longbeard. They walk out into this once field every morning. The hens fly directly into the field and the gobblers walk from their roost trees and enter the field in almost the same spot everyday. Just keep your ears open turkeygirl. Those turkeys are in there somwhere.
Turkeygirl
I really want to get these birds figured out so I can be right there opening morning in case someone else is around like last year. I'm going to go out tomorrow morning again accept get a little closer to where I thought they might be.
